We decided ahead of further travels to spend quality time in lovely setting, not disappointed.Great two course meal, starter was the Haggis corgette, absolutely beautiful, with delicious sauce and could have asked for better. Then the steak, Rib Eye with a sauce and pot chips, another great choice and again cooked just the way we liked it. Could have had a chocolate dessert but we had to quit whilst ahead, top class experience, and I highlightly recommend we trip. Worth the just under £60 paid.Dear Kevinodonnell,Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your valuable feedback following your dining experience with us. Passed it and place looks really nice. Decided the next night to order take away as their website claims this is a main part of their business model. ordered two meals but only one arrived. Was sorted in a reasonable time but still meant my wife had eaten hers by the time my replacement arrived, not ideal for our wee treat together and night off from kids. The food was nothing special, it was ok, but including delivery a couple mac'n'cheese and chips was around £30. I couldnt really claim it was good value. Sorry, i hate being negative on reviews but just wasnt a good experience. staff seem friendly enough and delivery driver was speedy. Maybe eating in is better and I wish all local business success as Dalkeith needs variety but fairest I can say was mediocre.Hello treksspexwherenext,Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your below par first experience in ordering from us. We are really disappointed to hear you didn't receive all your order at the same time. This just normally doesn't happen with us and can only say it was a rare mix up with one dish being left behind, so please accept our apologies. We take pride in our diners and customers being completely happy, whether they are at home or dining in with us.There is a discount voucher set aside for you, so the next time you are passing please pop in and pick this up, we would like to give you the opportunity to change your opinion of us to the 5 * dining experience we routinely offer.

Beautiful day and not one to be spent waiting for the arrival of a meal ordered on arrival. 3 fractious children hungry for lunch, 4 hungry Adults hoping that the wait would not be long. Glorious grounds inviting you outside but just a very long wait. In our case 1 hour. When it came the meal was only average. The Haddock was not fresh off the fishmongers slab and the chips were disappointing. The children were not too thrilled by their offering and a regular supply of Tomato ketchup was demanded to add some flavour. The Cullen Skink got a thumbs up. On the plus side the staff were very friendly and a delight to engage. Perhaps Sunday lunch is not a prime time for 'The Kitchen' It was not cheap which makes me say that it was not good value. I am sorry but I was disappointed. Oh and be prepared for a real hike up to the toilets which were spotless but there is a lift.We are so sorry you had to wait so long for your food yesterday. Thank you very much for letting us know - we will be taking action based on your feedback. We're delighted you found our team to be so friendly and helpful on the service side. Just to let others know we do also have an accessible bathroom downstairs and a parenting room.

My husband and I went for dinner and as we have been there before thought it would have been good - it wasn't. The customer service was fantastic - couldn't fault it but the food was shockingly bad and I feel that I've been cheated out of £60. The salad which came with the salad was warm, the chicken strips were tasteless and my main wasn't the best sea bass as it was served with what looked like everybody's left overs. I should have complaint but I was drinking wine and didn't realise how bad it was until I got home. I felt terrible for three days and now just recovering for it. My husband felt the same. We won't be returning.

Called in with my daughter for lunch and we had a great time. Food was fantastic and staff were great and chatted as they worked. Both staff serving weren't kids and they would have put the kids to shame, they were busy but we're lovely with little diners and they just worked together beautifully. The food was great and freshly cooked. We both had pasta which was divine and hot and bubbly which is my perfect meal. Definitely worth a visit. We loved it. X

We were just passing through Bonnyrigg and stopped off for drinks. Coffee was really nice, one of the best Iâve had in in a while. Really relaxed and friendly atmosphere with great service.Whilst we sat we saw some of the food being delivered to other tables and it looked lovely. The burgers looked amazing, just wish weâd had more time to try them. We will be back to eat as soon as possible.
