Reviews on British food in Colne, England, United Kingdom. Colne /kɒln/ is a town and civil parish in Lancashire, England, six miles north-east of Burnley, 25 miles east of Preston, 25 miles north of Manchester and 30 miles west of Leeds. It is a market town and the cross allowing a market to be held there dates to the 15th century. The cross was originally at the junction of Colne Lane and Church Street. It was first moved to the grounds of The Gables on Albert Road, the location of Colne Library until around 1970. It has now been relocated to outside the Market Hall on Market Street, part of the main road through the town centre.

Decades ago there were traditional little cafes like this all over the place in parks and beauty spots. Not any longer- so this is worth a visit in tandem with exploring the marvelous lakeside with its variety of birds/ducks/geese. Nice pictures celebrating the lakeside setting in a friendly little environment. We had a bacon sandwich and flapjack and a cup of tea which was a nice break.

Banny's Fish & Chips is a 280 seat Restaurant and Takeaway dedicated to serving that most classic of British food; Fish & Chip. Open Daily from 12 noon until 9pm (excluding Christmas Day).
Been visiting here since it opened.Restaurant and Takeaway.Quite a deterioration in standards recently -chips seem as though they have been cooked quite a while. Fish more batter than fish-and a lot smaller. Ate in the restaurant -both had fish & chips-reasonable but nowhere near as good as it was until about 6 months ago.Staff friendly and helpful. Food quite pricey for what you get.

Welcome to the new Bannisters Restaurant, the perfect destination to enjoy our specially created menu of the freshly prepared dishes cooked to order. Bannisters walk-in restaurant serves classic and contemporary dishes throughout the day in a relaxed atmo
We tried this place for the first time recently. First impressions were that the restaurant is nicely decorated. Second impression was that the staff werenât very friendly or welcoming. We overheard an elderly couple say that they couldnât finish their cream teas and could it be boxed up? The waitress just said, in an off hand way, âwell, weâve only got tin foil!â She wasnât that friendly towards us either and we were never asked if everything was ok.The food was very good however- a saving grace.Boundary Mill really needs to up its game with its eating places- both Bannisterâs and Bumbelliniâs look empty each time we walk past. On the other hand, Nannyâs is outstanding.

We visited on a Thursday evening which is their special gammon night at a reduced price. Three of our party had the Gammon which I felt took care of one pig due to the amount of meat. It was excellently cooked and presented by friendly staff. Three of us also chose other dishes that were tasty, well cooked and plenty on the plate. The restaurant is like stepping back in time in its decor but very welcoming and we felt really relaxed in it. Thanks to all the staff for their service and care in presenting a lovely evening.

Rural pub with 4 ensuite guest rooms in the old joinery. Open fires serving fabulous home cooked food. Cask ales, great wine and Gin selection. Dog friendly in certain areas.
I have stayed here for a couple of weeks and enjoyed both stays. There are only four rooms and they are comfortable and high standard. Breakfast is included in the room price which is very reasonable. The breakfast is very tasty and high quality. I usually have one of each of the cooked options each day, smoked haddock and poached eggs on muffin, eggs florentine, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs in muffin and full English. They are all really tasty and good portions. In comparison to other places I have stayed the evening menu is small but the food is home cooked to a very high standard again good portions of good food at reasonable prices. Both times I stayed I have received a really warm welcome and the staff are friendly and attentive.I would definitely stay again if I am in the area and recommend it fully.

Pleased to report our previous visit appears to have been a 'blip' - Diane & I enjoyed a fantastic meal on our first visit but this wasn't the case a few days later when we found the fare entirely ordinary. Armed with vouchers by way of compensation for our disappointment, we booked for Sunday Lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meals (Diane had beef, I had lamb). Thanks, we'll call again when next in the area!Fantastic to hear!Kindest regardsNina

Vegan review: Ate here for a friendâs baby shower. They were very generous with the portion sizes and quite creative! There was an assortment including falafel, potato salad, olives, sun dried tomatoes, wraps, vegan cheese, salad, fruit and chutneys. There was so much I took home what I couldnât finish. They packed it in brown paper bags for me. Dessert was fruit with vegan ice cream and candy floss! It was all for the bargain price of £15.

Situated on the road from Colne to Skipton, the Black Lane Ends is a pub with 360 degree views of the surrounding farms and moorland. Itâs reasonably remote and yet attracts a fair number of âlocalsâ in the bar. The beer is cold, the food is well prepared, well cooked and presented attractively by smiling young bar staff. Food is served all day so getting an early meal to suit elderly relatives or young children is not a problem. The specials boards change almost daily. We had two starters and two main courses from the special board + 2 1//2 pints of peroni lager came to £42.

Serving fresh food, home baked cakes, biscuits and desserts daily, to eat in or takeaway. Afternoon Tea served daily, Booking essential. Dogs welcome.
Called in with my dog and weâd gone to the park but it started raining hard. Always difficult to decide which cake to have but I settled for the blondie and a filter coffee which I prefer to fancier coffees. My dog was given a sausage which went down well. Lots of staff who were either cleaning or baking. Itâs nice to be able to see into the kitchen. Thank you for the lovely review, we do like our 4legged friends

Professionally run by (apparently) an excellent team of ladies. Friendly, good service. Home-cooked, fresh food (the pie was excellent). Vibrant atmosphere with a mix of locals and visitors. Just fitted us in without booking mid-week in October, so suggest booking to be sure most of the time.
