We visited last minute early Thursday evening. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. They cater for vegetarians and vegans here. I had the roasted vegetable lasagne which was delicious and very filling. Sadly I had no room for pudding. My family members had homemade steak and ale pie and the Hunters chicken which they said were the best theyâd ever tasted. My grandson had fish goujons which were actually fish fingers and definitely not homemade which is the only reason Iâve lowered my review stars. The lady apologised and advised the menu was due to be changed as there was a risk of bones making the goujons hence them opting for fish fingers. However all was good and little sir ate them all. He also made it to pudding and had delicious warm brownies and vanilla ice cream. The presentation was beautiful. I would highly recommend this place and advise to book ahead as it was very busy by the time we left.

Town Centre cafe offering a wide selection of food and drinks. daily specials, lunches ,sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pannini,s breakfast served all day homemade scones and desserts
Enormous fish (I ordered large!) , very fresh - including the very large portion of 'burn your mouth' hot chips, attractively served with garnish salad, by very friendly staff, in an airy restaurant (basically furnished but clean!) all at a very good price

The Golden Fillet never fails to impress. The fish and chips are always lovely and the portion sizes are certainly not skimpy. We go here for a takeaway and always phone ahead to place our order which I highly recommend as there are always queues out of the door.Staff are always friendly and I have never had a bad experience in all the years I have been going there. If you truly want the best fish and chips in the Clacton area then this is the place to go.

A family run Restaurant offering local ingredients, cooked to order and made on the Premises.
I hadn't been here in some time but returned for Sunday roast recently. I suspect it was either a different chef or someone was off sick. Serving staff seemed a little flustered and some meals weren't as good as normal. The whitebait was soggy, a crispy beef entree hard as nails and the main beef was of very fatty (see pics). The beef tasted fine though and rest of the meal was delicious. As always mains came with delicious, fresh vegetables. The yorkshires and gravy were great, as were the desserts. We were very surprised to see a male staff member come out of the kitchen to use the only toilet (in the dining area) with hair so long it was tucked into his trousers! We've always had fantastic meals here, so I suspect our issues were just a 1 off. They do some great value meal deals (entree/main) and bottles of wine start at £14. Food is usually local and changes seasonally. Despite a few issues on this visit, I look forward to returning.

On our last visit here the food was fabulous as always , the problem was the service which is such a shame as they are usually very good. Restaurant was quite busy but the staff kept disappearing and left the customers to just wait. We waited about 30 mins just to get the attention of a waitress to ask for a desert menu. By the time that came we had to eat and dash .Hi SueSo sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience on this occasion. Could you let me know what time/day you visited, so that I can investigate what went wrong?Regards

Weâve been using this restaurant for some years now,and itâs always consistently good. Food is nicely presented with fair prices to suit.Mainly normal non fussy English food, which is unusual in this multi society that we live in today,so if you want regular English food I would respectfully suggest this is the place to eat.Staff friendly, and efficient ,although one of the older waitresses misses her pills occasionally and does a misdemeanour ,she quickly corrects the error.ha,ha.

We had a look to see where the best chip was in Clacton and Geoâs seemed to be the one. Itâs amazing value and the service is quick and efficient. My sister and I had a small sausage and chips each. The chips and sausage were both up there with the best Iâve had. Itâs honestly so cheap as well. I highly recommend going there if youâre looking for a chip shop, and not just settling for one you come across! Itâs right in the centre, a few minutes from the beach and has a square with benches to sit on across the road.

Meal for two in restaurant was fair, fish was nicely cooked but expensive. Main issue was one surly male member of staff who insisted on having an outside door open as he was coming and going. It was a cold day and customers were reaching for their coats. WE and others complained to a waitress who closed the door, but the gentleman returned and opened it stating it must stay open as he wanted to go in and out. Zero customer service and a threatening look to all customers. Reported to manager who said 'its only one member of staff'Hi, we are sorry you feel this way about your experience at our restaurant and I will be talking to the staff about this situation. The issue with the door and bins is hard for us to get around as we have a certain time they must be taken out and the walk way from the back to the front needs to be open all the way through. Usually we would sit customers away from the door and do the bins as quickly as possible. The customer service you received will be seen to.The price of our restaurant is extremely low to other restaurants around the area and we were set to cheap and value for money on trip advisor. We also do student and OAP deals that aren't match anywhere for a sit down meal with waiter service.

We enjoyed a very nice lunch at this modern place in East Mersea that I had noticed on the Visit Mersea website. There is a nice outdoor terrace and field but, as it was a hot day, we opted to stay inside. No problem getting a table and our food was promptly brought up. Everything was so freshly made and we very much enjoyed our goats cheese salad and spinach and halluomi open sandwich. The huge and piping hot triple cooked chips were a bonus as well.We looked round the shop which has lots of locally made foods and arts & crafts and even went back to the restaurant for coffee and ice cream. All in all, a real highlight of our day trip to Mersea Island. That's really lovely to hear. Thank you so much.
