Ardersier (Scottish Gaelic: Àird nan Saor) is a small former fishing village in the Scottish Highlands on the Moray Firth near Fort George, between Inverness and Nairn. Its name may be an anglicisation of the Gaelic "Àird nan Saor", or "Headland of the joiners", one local legend being that carpenters working on the construction of ecclesiastical buildings on the other side of the Moray Firth were quartered here.

Traditional country pub and restaurant serving modern Scottish food with flair. Situated in the beautiful conservation village of Cawdor, close to the famous Cawdor Castle, Cawdor Tavern offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere to enjoy a simple bowl of
Burger; vegan risotto; children's mash tatties and peas. One childâs chocolate brownie and one adults chocolate brownie. 1 medium and 1 small wine; 1 fresh orange juice; 1 fruit shoot £56. Burger tasted nice but not much attention paid to presentation and very few chips. Sausages and mash came but had to ask for peas - it tasted ok though. The Vegan risotto was lovely although a tad too salty. Sadly only 2 main courses for Vegans; no chips as fried in same fat as fish; bread has milk in it and no pudding! Staff were polite and friendly but we would not rush back what we had was probably the cheapest options on the menu. Other mains were pretty expensive especially steaks. Better places to go for better value I feel this is over priced for an old tavern.

Rightio, I'm not one to complain and moan on this site at all. There were some really good things about the Plough and there were some really not good things. We'll start with the former;Ok, so we had a table booked for 7 o'clock, we got there just after 6pm we had a couple of drinks, sat outside in the beautiful beer Garden, loved the bar and general layout of the place, service was awesome, the beer was awesome. So far so good. However, as said we had booked a table in the morning for dinner at 7, we went through to the dining room, where the waitress just said to find somewhere and then went through everything they didn't have on the menu because they had been busy (No problem with that, places get busy) however, we sat at a table, which hadn't been wiped, even when our order was taken and she could see the table was filthy, it still wasn't cleaned. The food was lovely when it came, but then another wierd thing happened when we asked for another drink, we were told we had to pay for that in the bar seperate from the food, which we did, they had WiFi issues and the card payment took an age (I get things can be difficult due to the pubs remoteness)This place was frustrating because it does so many of the hard things right (good beer garden, friendly ambience, nice food, great bar service) and so many of the simple things horribly wrong, wiping tables, making sure that people can pay simply (trust me, people will spend more)

Home cooked food and very reasonable prices. Large dining area which sometimes can be a bit cold. Great welcome and fast service. Food is what i would call average although the macaroni cheese is very good.

Spending a weekend at Nairn and a friend recommended eating here. Well worth a visit. An excellent menu full of local produce with something for everyone. Nice kids menu too. We had 3 starters, 4 mains, 3 desserts and coffee for under £90. The venison haunch was amazing as was the game casserole. The service was so friendly, and despite being quite buy, the staff had time to stop and chat with customers, making us feel really welcome and creating a lovely ambience. We'll definitely be back.

After a long 30-hour day of travel, and evening arrival, our B&B host recommended Star Inn. Simply superb! Wife had very substantial Veggie Tart Salad. Never had something so good and unique. I had macaroni bake. Great portion size, all homemade, glorious on a cool night. Located about 7 miles from Inverness airport. Get off beaten path and try this pub/restaurant. Reasonable prices, great service and food! Located in town of Ardersier.
