Find out what British restaurants to try in Aldeburgh. Aldeburgh (/ˈɔːlbrə/ AWL-brə) is a coastal town in the English county of Suffolk. Located on the North Sea coast to the north of the River Alde, the town is notable for having been the home of composer Benjamin Britten and as the centre of the international Aldeburgh Festival of arts at nearby Snape Maltings, founded by Britten in 1948. It remains an artistic and literary centre, with an annual Poetry Festival and several food festivals and other cultural events. We were in Aldeburgh last week to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was a very hot day and we popped into Munchies to get a cool refreshing drink. All the tables in front were taken but we were told to go through to a courtyard. There were about 5 ladies already there and at least 3 people came to deliver their food and drinks. We waited and waited and waited. We tried to catch the eye of the 3 girls who serving but we were completely ignored. After some 20 - 25 minutes we got up and left. A cheerful young man said thanks for your visit and come again! Well no actually we won't. It is polite to actually acknowledge someone and say they will be with you shortly.Hi This is so sad and clearly a miscommunication Itâs very, very rare that we donât attend a table immediately and I apologise unreservedly for this.If you didnât have menus with you at the table, that are given as you arrive, then the waitress would have assumed you had already ordered as we take them in once you have ordered There is a public access to our terrace which maybe you used rather than the restaurant front door and then you wouldnât have been on our radar ? Customers with menus are served within a few minutes without fail If you had come in through the front door we would have said just that â We will be with you shortly â we actually tell the customers as they arrive the name of the person who will be looking after them so we canât have greet you at all. Iâm so sorry this happened but we canât close the public alley that goes up to our terrace

Independent Cafe located on Hall Farm, Saxmundham Road, Aldeburgh with great views of Aldeburgh marshes. All our food is homemade. We serve a wide selection of cakes, pastries, fruit and cheese scones. We also offer quiches, sandwiches, panini, soups, sal
One visit for breakfast (not cheap but top quality ingredients all freshly cooked) and another for Sunday lunch (good plate of food again). Excellent on all counts and so far from the corporate chains as it could ever be. Local people running their business their way and very well too. Donât expect rushed in and out service, go with the flow and enjoy. Recommended.

There were 6 of us, and we fancied a sit-down lunch. Canât book, so we made our way upstairs. Obviously, we wanted to sit together (all tables for 4 really), but the rather bossy waitress set us out as a not-very-sociable 4+2. I re-arranged the chairs to a 3+3 (boys & girls), and she copped the right hump. I could quite easily have left at that point. Suddenly, another table became free, in the middle, so we all squeezed round it. We all enjoyed our fish (5 cod and a haddock); mostly large and a couple of mediums. Soft drinks only on the menu, but you can take your own wine for a £3.50 corkage charge. Food was better than average, but they need to chill out a bit, no matter how busy they may be.

Iâve just logged on to add a review and see 14bexr has beaten me to it! I was one of the dog club group.....and I completely agree with whatâs already been written about our two evenings at The Mill Inn. Tom and our waiter (sorry didnât get your name) were so accommodating and not at all put out by our big group of people and dogs as we all piled in. It was service with a smile throughout both evenings. From the delicious food, which all arrived at the same time, to the attentive service - all made for two brilliant evenings for our weekend away. Thank you and I look forward to revisiting again.

Our new Bar and Brasserie has been inspired by a modern desire to return to simple, 'back to basics' food, offering freshly prepared dishes, contemporary, informal surroundings and impeccable service. We hope the whole family will enjoy dining with us. Fr
This restaurant is a bit basic in terms of decor and layout (it is the White Lion Hotel's main restaurant and bar, open from breakfast to late) but we had a jolly good meal (lots of locally sourced seafood dishes) with excellent service. Very reasonable prices.

Interested to see the previous review. Our party of four decided to eat here for lunch on Monday. One meal was fine, one average, and two inedible. My skate was completely off, with a strong smell of amonia, how this ever got cooked, let alone leave the kitchen is beyond us, chef, surely must have realised during the cooking process. Needless to say it was swiftly returned. My husband had fish and chips, the fish was just one big piece of oily batter with little or no fish inside, absolutely disgraceful, this too was returned. In circumstances such as these, we would have expected the chef or manager to come out and apologise, but no, it was left to the waiting staff, who didnt have the experience in handling such matters. As Aldeburgh has an abundance of fresh fish with a good choice of restaurants, we suggest that you revisit your food hygene procedures if you want to keep your customers and your business.Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you did not enjoy the experience. The skate was freshly delivered that morning and there were no issues with the other guests that were served skate. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your fish and chips. The fish was fresh and the batter freshly made. I fail to understand how there could be no fish in battered and deep fried dish.I was disappointed to note that you failed to mention that you were not charged for your meals when the Supervisor tried to do something about the situation, but I suppose that is fairly typical of such one sided reviews.

We were in Aldeburgh for the day, and having had a full English breakfast at our cottage, we just fancied a snack and a non-alcoholic beverage (heavy night previously). This is a charming tea room, and had plenty of customers, so we took up a couple of tables in the rear âcourtyard.â Massive selection of teas and other hot drinks. A few of us also had a bite to eat, with the jam and cream scones going down really well (cream first, then jam is definitely the way to do it). Enjoyable

We had a terrific late-afternoon 3 course meal with several drinks, the service was welcoming, friendly and efficient, the food was absolutely delicious, the fish curry is to die for and it's probably the best garlic bread we've ever tasted. Marvellous value at £72 for 3 courses and several drinks including wine.

Whilst staying in Aldeburgh came across this excellent little restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food both on the menu and specials board also catered very well for gluten free can highly recommend and would not hesitate to go back it was a very packed evening but there was no wait for service or the food and there was no rush in between courses which in some places you can get so cannot wait to go back when next in the area
