The Yokohama Bay Bridge completed in 1989, this 860-meter suspension bridge links the two piers of Honmoku and Daikoku.
I cruise a lot and have transited under many bridges. But this one in Yokohama is only surpassed by the one departing Copenhagen in my estimation for excitement. I'm sure glad the Captain knows exactly how tall the tallest point on the ship ... and the lowest point on the Bridge ... are. Because neither departing Yokohama or Copenhagen did he ever slow down or creep under them. But a disaster could occur if his calculations weren't spot on. I was on one of the upper decks, but not the tallest one as we went under Yokohama. But a bunch of people wanted to get as far up as they could go. Scary if the Skipper's calculations were wrong. So for those of you that have not traveled UNDER a bridge on a near 1,000 foot long ship ... I've attached some time lapse photos taken off my video cam you may enjoy. And make sure to look at the people up on top as we were going under the bridge. Notice where THEY are looking. All at the near miss. It's a shame I couldn't attach the audio of the ship's horn blowing. This Captain really must have enjoyed laying on it as I'm sure it blew for 10 or more seconds. I guess the Captain enjoyed going under the Yokohama Bridge as much the rest of us ......
