Tucked away in the fields of Tildonk near Leuven, you can find brewery Hof ten Dormaal, an old farm estate, first mentioned in the thirteenth century as the main farm of the manor of Lauwendries. Hof ten Dormaal is a unique concept for Belgium where farming and brewing go hand in hand. This goes back to the ancient Belgian tradition where brewing mainly happened on the farm, with the surplus grains, in this rich, fertile region. This tradition is revived today by the Janssens family. Under supervision of father Andre, the two brothers Jef and Dries take on the challenge of modern-day brewing and farming. The brothers aim to create unique, innovating flavors, working with the purest ingredients from the farm. All ingredients, from grain to hops, are grown on the farm. After brewing, the spent grain goes back to the farm animals, including the unique Belgian drought horses, typical for the region.

The Duvel Moortgat brewery was founded in 1871. A specialized, beer-passionate guide will tell you the story of innovative brewing with respect for family tradition and quality, in a 2-hour tour, including a tasting and the typical pouring ritual for Duvel. Cheers!
We had the opportunity to tour Duvel. Our guide, Brigitte, was knowledgeable and very interactive with the group. Our kids found the experience fun. As home brewers, there is always more to learn. We both learned new things on this tour.

If you come to Brussels and like good beer, you cannot miss the visit to 3 Fonteinen. Located in Lot, it’s only 15 min. by train from the city. They’ll welcome you with a huge smile and if you have the opportunity to make the guided tour (reservation is needed), don’t miss it! During the tour they will explain you their history and introduce you to the Lambic beer tradition, and of course, tastings are included. Their good work as brewers is the same as hosts. Once you're done with the tour, you can't leave the Lambik-O-droom without trying one or maybe two, of the amazing bottled jewels they have on the beer menu. I’m 100% sure that I’ll repeat the visit the next time I’d come to Brussels.

The Lindemans family has been brewing traditional lambic since 1822. Even longer ago, we actually started brewing lambic to help our farmers work during the winter period. And to quench their thirst, of course. Lambic is the oldest type of beer known to man, brewed in a very specific way. While Lambic is the only beer we brew, the traditional old way from days long passed, we later turn it into delicious other beers, like our Gueuzes, Kriek, Faro and our Botanical Gueuzes. The latter is the result of blending tradition with innovation and experimenting. We never do things like the other breweries. Because we are not like the others. Is it because of where we live, that is so much unlike any other place? The obvious Southwest winds? Is their something mysterious in the air? Or because the nearby Zenne river makes people go crazy? Maybe it is one of these reasons, but it could just as well be all of them. Want to learn more? Want to try our heavenly beers? Come visit us!
I would like to thank Lindemans and in particular our guide Rudi for a wonderful tour on August 1st. He was such a helpful thoughtful person who made our tour very special. It was a wonderful experience. We learned a lot and they all tasted some lovely beers. Next time i will get someone else to drive!!!
