From canal-laced, fairy-tale cities like Bruges and Ghent to the urban centers of Antwerp and Brussels, Belgium sits at the crossroads of medieval and modern Europe. The chance to sample famous exports such as chocolate and beer straight from the source only sweetens a visit.

You are not allowed entrance into the area without setting up an appointment first. Anyway, defintely worth to visit the place that makes "the best beer in the world", and enjoy the Westvleteren beers at the nearby restaurant "In de Vrede". A must visit when in Belgium.

With roots going back to 1471, Het Anker is one of Belgium’s oldest breweries, a harmonious blend of old and new in an authentic, historic building. At the same time, visitors can discover the maturing stocks of Gouden Carolus Single Malt, Belgium’s only brewery whiskey. You can visit the brewery as a group or on one of the guided tours: a) Groups of minimum 10 and maximum 25 people upon reservation. b) Guided tours, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11am; up to 4 persons you do not need to book in advance. Price: €7,20 per person, which includes the guided tour and a tasting of2 Gouden Carolus beers.
We did both the brewery and distillery tours, about 3 hours together, and both guides were fun and knowledgeable. Fascinating insight into the processes and history of beer and whiskey made here, and to taste some of them was nice! Prices in the gift shop and restaurant are reasonable too, so we stopped for a beer and bought some to take home. Had a great time visiting this!

"Brewery des fagnes" is a company known for the production of its special beers. We brew around fifty different beers a year. These vary according to seasons as well as spices or raw materials that we could find in the region /nature. Visitors can follow the whole production process in only few meters from their table, in the warm atmosphere of an old 19th century brewery which has been reproduced. A brasserie restoration menu will be suggested to you.You will discover delicious grilled meat an fish, various salads and different local or regional specialities.A very friendly and renowned establishment for the quality of its products. The brasserie may also welcome you to enjoy its large terrace in summer nearby the secure children's playground, but also during winter around a big open fire ! We are looking forward to welcome you with pleasure and ... very good tasting !
