The Garonne river in Toulouse offers nice walks along the banks with amazing views on brick-made historical buildings both at night and during daytime. It’s also an opportunity to learn a lot about the history of the city that was organized around the river.

I walked 2 times up to Lac D'oo. It is more difficult than one is led to believe. Took me at least 1 hour and 30 mins each way (with stops for photos) and I would advise you to wear proper walking boots. I am a fairly experienced walker, so this is definitely NOT a tourist's stroll. Was relatively quiet in December and January. Like most of the French Pyreness virtually nothing open for refreshments. Take sandwiches and a flask and enjoy them overlooking the Lake. It's possible to continue walking to a refuge higher up and on to the G10 path. This requires more equipment . We were glad of our spikes to put on over our boots when we walked up as the ground was partially frozen in January. Later buy some fabulous Lac D'Oo trout in the Luchon produce market on Saturdays.

With its double tree lined pathways punctuated by picturesque bridges and interesting architecture on the way agree with previous commentary that nicer than the canal du midi. Joined it half way after stopping briefly at the Japanese garden. Walked south towards the opening of the Garonne which took about 20 minutes and thought it stunning and tranquil and truly a respite from the boiling sun. A definite must if visiting Toulouse and if the weather is good and a breather from the plethora of shops churches and museums.
