A wonderful area of Melbourne to take in nature and relax, whether by yourself, with your partner, friends or a family group.

This is a coastal trail that is about 20km in length. It is suitable for cyclists and walkers and is well made in concrete. It passes through many parks along the way. Along the way there will be areas where food, water and toilets are available.
We had a pleasant walk along the Hobson's Bay Coastal Trial between Williamstown Botanical Gardens and the Altona Pier on a sunny Sunday morning. This section has coastal views near Williamstown then skirts the northern edges of the Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve (where some side trips are worthwhile) and Paisley-Challis wetlands, heads up to cross Kororoit Creek along some industrial area before rejoining the coast at PA Burns Reserve. The path is suitable for walking and bikes and wasn't too heavily frequented. Toilets were located near the Williamstown and Altona ends but were a bit hard to find in between. It is possible to walk from West Gate Bridge to Williamstown via the Bay Trail. We have previously done this and it is pleasant too and of similar quality and hugs the Yarra river and the coastline more with a variety of surfaces. A side trip to ScienceWorks is possible. The Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park was quite blowy when we did that section and you take the bitumen road through the industrial port area. The path is very well maintained and easy to walk on. At the end we enjoyed a meal in the Altona shopping strip and then took the train back from Altona to Williamstown (via Newport) so we only had to walk one way.

La Larr Ba Gauwa Park is home to the Harcourt Mountain Bike Trails. There's a ride for every level of experience: its 34km of purpose-built circuits are rated from green to blue to black. Opening to riders on 9 March 2018, its an exciting new way to take in the stunning views and natural granite features in the foothills of Mount Alexander, around the regionally renowned Oak Forest.
I rode tracks 1,2,3 and 4. These ones are the easiest, according to riders that have ridden them all. The tracks were all well designed, with very few steep sections and the downhills flowed well. The only true beginners track was no.1, and even that was intermediate in a couple of places. I would recommend a dual suspension bike, or high end hardtail for riding these tracks. My basic hardtail was pushed to it's limits on a number of occasions.

A sunny day and a pleasant walk around the Clifton Hill area. I do like how the bridges allow entry and exit from the Trail enabling people to build the right sized adventure. I love the bridge at Rushall railway station where the Capital City Trail joins the Merri Creek one.

Experience the diversity of East Gippsland as this well maintained rail trail weaves over 100km past undulating farmland, tall forests, creeks, rivers and flood plains. Cross the historic timber railway bridges and enjoys views of the Gippsland Lakes before arriving at Orbost and the Snowy River.
Lovely ride from Bairnsdale to Bruthen which took 4 hours return. Sealed all the way from Bairnsdale to Nicholson.

My review is mainly for the Bonnie Doon to Mansfield section (22k). The path has small stones (blue metal?) but there’s a smooth line for the front tyre. I rode 35” tyres on a Surly tourer, no probs. Wouldn’t recommend for a 23” roadie. Beautiful old red gums and rich pastoral land abound. Parts reminded me of the Meseta on the Camino to Santiago. Also did the section from Alexandra to Spring Creek Rd turnoff (i took this Rd to Bonnie Doon). Also a nice experience. Thanks to the track volunteers who’ve made it possible for bikers, walkers and horse riders to enjoy this part of Vic in peace.

We went to check it out, excellent walking path all the way around. Probably about a 2 kilometer walk. Good wheelchair access. Trees and birds in abundance. Great photo opportunities.

The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail is a 67km recreational trail following the former historic Gippsland Plains railway line route between Stratford and Traralgon. The trail passes through undulating dairy country, takes in unique regional flora and fauna, and there are a number of quintessentially Gippsland villages along the way.
