Visiting Sluis, The Netherlands we had to try the local cuisine which in this case was Fries and Mayo. They actually offer fries with about 20 other toppings, but in this neck of the wood, Mayo is King! They were really, really good! A nice Jupiler beer helped them digest. We would eat here again.

During our trip to Bruges, we stayed in a hotel in Sluis, and decided to have our last evening meal in Sluis itself, so we could walk back to the hotel.De Frietstal is a misleading name. You would expect a snackbar ("fries shack") but it is a regular restaurant. When we went there in March 2014 we made a reservation in advance - totally unnecessary. Out of roughly 30 tables, only 3 were taken. Sluis centre was deserted. After some beers as appetizers, we decided to order the mixed seafood platter ("visschotel van het huis"). Quite sizeable, and the fish was prepared well, but it was all fairly bland, with sauces that seemed warmed up and industrial. The fries and vegetables were ok, but not exciting either. All in all, a nourishing meal that lacked imagination. Good service though, by our local waiter. But not good enough to go back I think.

At the lower end of the pedestrian area of Sluis you'll find this restaurant. It has a nice spot overlooking the windmill and the crowds passing by. The waitress was very friendly and quickly took our orders. Plenty to choose from on the menu, from small snacks to full dinners. Combined with some good drinks you'll have what you came for.

Small and trendy restaurant in the center of the city. Very light and cosy interiour with open kitchen. Chef Thierry serves a traditional but light French cuisine with Asian influences. Friendly and attentive service by his wife Véronique
Nice restaurant but small, friendly staff. The food is very tasteful, we took the menu and this was excellent. Only downpoint which in the end spoiled the meal was the waiting time for the dessert, this took between 45 min. and an hour, i was already planning to leave without dessert.

We regularly have lunch in this restaurant. Many people here are regular guests. I took the oven baked fish with wine sauce, it excelled in being tasteless. My wife took the Flemish stew and enjoyed it a lot. Depending on what you take you will enjoy it more or less. The service is always very friendly.

On our way back from Vlissingen, we drove pass the national boundaries and spotted a lovely barn, we turned around and decided to have dinner there. Good decision, beautiful setting and the prices were reasonable considering the decor. We had Seabass with risotto and Prawns in Garlic. Sensible and satisfying portions, will visit again.

Situated in the centre of Retranchement :). Large terrace and a friendly service. We had excellent muscles and the kids had some steaks. All well prepared. A no nonsene place. Dinner is being served rather early

Stopped here on a cold dry Nederland day. The cafe is welcoming and had a fire burning which was very welcoming. The staff were friendly. A large selection of food and drinks were available, the Waffles with Slagroom were tasty. Clean toilets and a clean shop. The interior was stylishly done. Will come back again.

We discovered Passion for a first time through a Groupon promotion. Since we had been spoiled then, we decided to go back for a second time. The staff deserves a 11/10 for friendliness. All of them!My burger and my partner's steak were delicious and the fries... well, they're amongst the best we ever had. When in Sluis, don't doubt and go to Passion. You won't be disappointed.
