Weimar was quite the intellectual hotspot back in the day, with Goethe, Friedrich Schiller, Bach, Liszt, Lucas Cranach and the Weimar School all spending time here. Goethe groupies will enjoy visiting his home, his tomb and the museum dedicated to him. If you’re in search of great food, visit during the Weimar Onion Market, held in October. (Just don’t forget your mints.)

This guesthouse is the place to stay in Weimar if you’re looking for something of the beaten track. This elegant combination of Asian finesse and industrial chic would fit in any metropole. Great rooms, friendly staff and an excellent location (just around the central market square). The owners als operate an excellent restaurant (and an Asian food store) across the street. The only minor point is they offer no breakfast (but the owners provide ample suggestions and rumour has they will open a cafe shortly to cater for this).

Hotel Hollerbusch is a superb hotel: great Location, very High standard of facilities throughout, first class breakfast, fast, complementary WiFi, complementary mini bar in the room, complementary tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes. There is also a lovely secluded garden. If the owners’ vision is to give guests a high-quality, personalised experience in a bespoke hotel, they have certainly achieved it.

We stayed for three nights in the Hotel. The Check-In was extremely uncomplicated and fast. The stuff is overall very friendly, fast and helpful. The room was spacious and clean and also the bathroom. The bed was very good so we slept very well. And it was also quiet, maybe you hear a little bit from the motorway. But for us absolute silent. The breakfast was really very very good. I’ve seen not often such a big selection of sausages or salads like egg salad, meat salad and such things. Very good. The only warm dish are boiled eggs, but we missed nothing because a lot of other thinks. Also a selection of bread, chess, fruits and cereals. So we enjoyed the breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere. For two times we had dinner in the restaurant. They have a small menu but with really enough selection. The food was good and for our opinion cheap. There is enough parking space at the hotel. In the village itself there is nothing except some houses, so very quiet. If we come back to Weimar we will visit the hotel again. We was absolute satisfied with the Hotel. Best regards Patrik&Andrea

This hotel looks a little dated, and yes, the styling is more traditional than others. It is however newer than the styling might make you think. All furnishings are good as new. The staff is friendly, breakfast is good. Add a central location, at about 200m from the old weimar city centre and enourmous rooms and you have an excellent base to explore Weimar. Well recommended.

We booked Apartment No.3, on the third floor (no lift) at the front of the old building; I have bad knees but didn't find the stairs a problem at all. Although perhaps a little small, the apartment is an absolute delight. Windows all across the front let in masses of light; the small kitchen is enough for a quick snack or a small meal, and has a little fridge as well as a kettle and coffee pot; the bathroom - although tiny - has a very good shower and lots of hot water (and a hair dryer), and also that most elusive of items in Europe .. a fresh facewasher. The double bed is very comfortable, with large puffy pillows. The potplants & greenery add to the freshness. The reception isn't manned at all times, however when we rocked up we phoned the number prominently displayed on the door, and the managers arrived within 5 minutes to let us in and explain where everything was. Would have no hesitation in renting this apartment again.

Small, family owned/operated, cosy hotel in a quiet village near Weimar. Superbly clean. Great atmosphere (stayed on 2 separate occasions). Excellent restaurant. Overall excellent value for money. Location: near A4 Autobahn, and yet distant enough to be peacefully quiet.
