Charming hospitality and the best food we had in Italy

Reviewed By sharon106

A group of us came here on a guided walk and couldn't believe our good fortune. The food and ambience were so incredible we came back as a group a second time. This sweet little restaurant is a bit out of the way, but oh so worth it. The chef and his wife are artists in every sense of the word. Their meals and hospitality are authentic, home- grown and homemade but with a modern flare! We had a mouth-watering turkey scallopini with a wine sauce, delicious and creative crostini, and a rich and elegant creamy soup with layers of flavor. Our group of seven agreed our meals here were the best we had in Italy. The hosts do not speak English well, but they are warm and friendly. Enjoy! We would come back any chance we had.

Relais Le Macine Di Stigliano

Nestled on the eastern slope of the Sienese Montagnola between the pristine woods and the luxuriant nature of Riserve Naturali della Merse "Le Macine di Stigliano" arises from an ancient building, part of one of the medieval castles that used to constellate the surrounding hills in the past. The Relais has been carefully restored to bring the ancient building back to the grandeur of the XI century

Mostly good

I have mixed thoughts about this place so it probably comes down to value for the money. Service is outstanding- very professional. When we arrived there was a funny smell in the bathroom. They came, agreed, and moved us to another room with an upgrade. They handled it very well. The upgrade, however, was for one night and then we had to move again for the 2d night. The 2d night we were next to the outdoor dining area so we couldn’t open windows due to lack of privacy and we heard the diners’ voices like they were in our room. The hotel is located in between 2 hills (more of a gulley) so it does not have the sweeping views that some other places we stayed at had at lower prices with same quality. It is an old building, which has charm, but you hear adjacent rooms and the plumbing. The touches are luxurious, the place clean (smell in the bathroom aside), and breakfast options were very good. It was a very nice place overall.

Environment typical country-style farmhouse, rent rooms equipped with every comfort, furnished with taste and refinement, where old bricks and beams form the backdrop to furnishings of high quality; the accommodations have a minibar, air conditioning, heating and a safe and all rooms have a private bathroom with linen supplied by us. Our breakfasts are served in the main hall and are presented in an extensive buffet, which will allow you to enjoy the most typical dishes of the Tuscan tradition, while in our restaurant Il Grillo Moro there is a very extensive a la carte menu from the classic steak pizza inevitable Fiorentina.

CASALE IL COLOMBAIO DI TOIANO (SIENA) Tel. Mobil + 39 00 328 8141942 Tel. Land + 39 00 0577 314016 It is the most beautiful farmhouse in the world. It is a harmonious beauty that infuses deep well-being, a positive energy that impresses the mind and the heart and remains forever, unforgettable. This is the power of beauty, architectural and harmonic beauty, that which generates unforgettable memories and emotions. The guests and travelers, all of them, feel these feelings and describe them in the reviews. We, Giuseppina and Paolo, who have been living in this enchanted home for 20 years, whenever we leave we almost immediately feel a very strong attraction to come back and every time we see him in us the thought that is the most beautiful Casale in the world is consolidated . This very ancient farmhouse was conceived, designed and built almost 1000 years ago, we, Giuseppina and Paolo, have wisely restored it internally, exponentially enhancing the natural comforts that each of us wants in our home. This is why the feeling that people experience is, essentially, that of feeling like in one's own home. Yet they are people from all over the world, with different cultures, customs and traditions. This is the magic and the profound spiritual beauty of this small farmhouse. Then come the technical features of the home, imagine a typical Tuscan home, perfectly restored, equipped with all the comforts of an elegant country home. Finally we come, Giuseppina and Paolo, with our natural welcome and kindness, which is based on the profound respect of people, regardless. Here, for us to live in this magical home and have the opportunity to host, learn and learn from people from all over the world, we think it is an immense gift that every day strengthens our desire to live our lives with profound joy. Greetings from Italy, Tuscany and Siena, Giuseppina and Paolo.

A B&B that doesn’t provide breakfast

Reviewed By L727GPcindyl

And that’s the least of the problem. I booked for our group of 12. It started December last year and we had lots of email communication due to plan changes. We talked via WhatsApp and paid the deposit via credit card. We declined their offer of dinner and cooking class at their site. I was looking forward to meeting them based on the raving review of being treated like family. Upon arrival, I was informed the following: First, only cash for the balance. I didn’t expect this since they can take credit card payment for the initial deposit. I was not informed either. So I have to ask cash from our friends to pay for the balance. And the price changed. It was communicated up front: 90 euros for double and 65 euros for single. We do have a room for two guys and I have requested two twin beds early on. It was never communicated that it will be 20 euros more per night. Their reason is that there is a twin bed in addition to the double bed. I understand that the double bed cannot be separated to two twin beds like most hotel and didn't argue with him. But it should have been communicated when I requested. (p.s. Not only that, he had flat out refused to put three persons in one room saying it is not big enough. But apparently there is such room that can accommodate our friends whose daughter traveled with them. Their tactic is for us to take all eight rooms. And we would have put two guys in two room if the family of three can take one room.) Most surprisingly information in our initial meeting is the breakfast options. I was aware that 7 euros per person for breakfast is not included in the room cost, and we are willing to pay for the homemade Tuscany breakfast. However, Paolo told me the three breakfast options: 1. 7 euros for simple breakfast, one cup of coffee, one pastry and one fruit. 2. 15 euros for brunch style 3. 2 euros for one cup of coffee and one pastry if we eat at the bar in town and he highly recommended this option. It is the best, he said! Clearly, they didn't want to make breakfast for us. So we took the hint and told him we will eat out on our own. He then told us that we are not allowed to use the kitchen, which his wife Giuseppina told me again in Italian when touring the facility. I am a rule sticker so I pass the message to our friends. No problem. We asked the wifi password, and started settling in our rooms. The eight rooms we have are in two different buildings. The bigger building houses 5 rooms with a living room and the kitchen. We were told not to use the kitchen, so we all gathered in the living room which is on the second floor, eating watermelon, after we came back from dinner. We did treat the living room like our own house, not making a mess. Next thing we knew, Giuseppina had come upstairs speaking Italian. We learned from her gesture that she didn't want us to eat watermelon in the living room. She wants us to go to the courtyard. Although we are careful, I understand the request and we are all willing to comply for this new rule. The million dollar question is how did she know we are eating watermelon upstairs! The first night, the host came upstairs to the living room again after most went to bed because the light is still on. Are we back in the dorm with light out at certain time? The next day when we went to dinner, I left a tiny light on in my bathroom so I wouldn't walk in dark like the first night. But it was off when we came back. Are they inspecting the rooms after we went out? Then one of our friends realized the suitcase she left on the floor was moved to the closet in her room. Unbelievable! We soon realized the wifi is not working in our rooms, nor in the courtyard. But we didn't bother to tell them. I wish we had the breakfast everyone is raving about and I wish we felt at home as most reviewer stated. Maybe they couldn't handle all eight rooms being rented out at the same time? The place doesn't have AC, so be prepared it is hot during the day. But it is also expected in the old farm house. So I wouldn't rate against it. My overall experience is way below my expectation, but I am going to give it an average, not poor. But the service does need a lot of improvement.

Andrea is a wealthy of information for bike riding, repairing bikes if needed, and great routes to ride around the area. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Will certainly stay again when we go back.

This is the perfect location for combining a visit to Siena (20 min by car) with the lovely nature of its surroundings. We truly enjoyed our stay. The house has been beautifully renovated, has a nice garden with swimmingpool. We had a very comfy room with a good bed and a spacious bathroom with great shower. But above all, they serve a brilliant fresh homemade breakfast. Orsa is very passionate about culture and food, which you will experience during her lovely cooking class (highly recommended!). We would love to come back again.

Something special

We overnight in the accommodation for the second time. We rented a large apartment for 8 people. Unfortunately, one room is slightly worse than the others. We regret that they removed the central chimney, which gave a special charm to the room. The insulation in the apartment is not the best, but everything else is excellent. The surroundings of the building are beautifully landscaped. Breakfast is great, only the lady in the bar fails to serve a larger number of guests, especially if they are hungry :) So the ham and cheese went quickly. The lady at the front desk is more than friendly and helpful. The facility is located in unspoiled nature, so you are accompanied by the singing of pheasants and the voices of deer. Sometimes you also come across an animal species that some are scared of. Wonderful, especially with the views you enjoy. I recommend.
