Solo rejuvenation trip to a Japanese Onsen Ryokan

Reviewed By harumi a

A friend suggested I stay at the ryokan and take part in the skincare rejuvenation treatments at the be Sasara day spa. The Ryokan was clean and gave a sense of peace and calm. I took a dip in the outdoor natural hot spring bath. Temperature was perfect, and soak made my skin smooth and soft. At night, I had a multi course Kaiseki dinner at the restaurant. Food was amazing! The koshihikari rice that Niigata is known for was beyond good! The seafood, meat dishes were all excellent. In the morning I signed up for a sparkling spring water facial. They put a mask and contraption on my head which allowed sparking bubbly spring water to cascade all the way my face. The mask was comfortable and allowed me to breathe normally while this waterfall was cascading down my face. Very invigorating, hydrating, and made my skin feel clean and tighter. Highly recommended! They also had a "v-steam" treatment that I wasn't brave enough to try... If you are in the area or are looking for a real traditional Japanese ryokan experience with real hot spring baths - this is a great place. The added beauty treatments at the inhouse day spa made the experience even better.

Amazing stay!

Stayed one night on the way to Naeba Ski resorts. We didn't know anything about Tsukioka onsen, but we are so glad we came. 1. Location About 35-40min drive from JR Niigata Station. We rented a car at Nigata station, drove to Pier Fishmarket (great fun, must stop) and had quick lunch, drove to beach to look at the Japan Sea, drove to Tsukioka Onsen. I think hotel would be great if there's shuttle bus from Niigata Station. In Tsukioka Onsen (spa) town, town has cute stores on the streets, Sake tasting for 500yen etc, very reasonably priced. There's Ashiyu (foot bath) in town and it was very nice. We were worried about snow storm. In the end all the road was clear and no snow on the road. Rental car provided studies tire and we were very comfortable driving. 2. Facilities Building might be old, but it is VERY well maintained. Ikebana flower everywhere, large lobby and souvenir shop with good selection. There's no room with private bath but we paid to use Kashikiri Furo (Private rental bath with outdoor tub overlooking garden) at sister hotel next door. Hotel staffs drove to next door Kaho hotel, which was great service. There's heated swimming pool at Kaho. 3. Room Overlooking Tsukioka town was SO nice. Snow covered everywhere, it was very pretty. There's small wet bar, separate toilet and bathroom with double vanity. Our tatami room was HUGE with corner windows overlooking town. 4. Food Dinner is at restaurant and it was good portion. Presentation was very nice and staff was very pleasant. Overall I love this hotel because service was amazing. Every staffs were smiling and willing to help. Large lobby is good for group to lounge or kids to run around. For the price I paid it is far better than Hoshino resorts we stayed few months ago (every Hoshino hotel's service varies) and we'd love to come back again.

Tsukioka was once an uninhabited hill in the middle of the woods. In 1917, in the midst of the oil rush excitement in Niigata prefecture, hot spring water suddenly gushed from an excavating well. People said "Oil isn't found under hot water," and the oil company abandonded the well. Shuzaburo Honma noticed this hot water, established a common bath and opened a therapeutic bath inn next to it. Thus began Tsukioka Onsen. Since then, approximately 100 years of history has passed, and Tsukioka has become famous as a hot spring resort representing Niigata prefecture.

I stayed one night there. This is a old hotel but is very clean and tidy. Food is good and both breakfast and dinner are served in room , 40 min free private bath provided. Even though the staff can't speak English well, we communicated via simple words or body language and this doesn't affect our impression on them. Staff are pleasant and very helpful . We still enjoy very much in this hotel.

When you’re speaking about Japanese inn and you really would like to experience one of the best hotels in Japan the place to be. The rooms are outstanding, same is the service and the food. I come here since 20 years and have enjoyed every single time. Besides the usual atmosphere you have in in top Japanese Ryokan style hotel, they offer a wellness area and indoor swimming pool. Besides 2 bigger “Ofuro”, you have a very outstanding private hot spring bath in your room if you booked the right category. Have a look at the picture. Consider vallet parking, nice garden areas, in-room coffee/espresso machine as normal. Certainly not cheap. Quality has it’s price here. You spend more than 700 US per night but it is worth every cent!! And you don’t stay here for two weeks! There is only one problem. Once you have stayed here, consider it being not possible to top this level. Meaning for the future stays in other hotels you might end up disappointed if you compare hotels visited afterwards with this wonderful place. Highly recommendable

best onsen in Niigata Prefecture

Reviewed By johntaro

overall excellent service, great food and wonderful onsen. I could tell immediately when we pulled up that this would be better than most onsen ryokan just by the greeting. Kaiseki ryori was served in our room; the onsen water is green and despite the smell works wonders. As you may or may not know, Niigata is best known for its rice quality (and excellent sake if you like it karakuchi).

Excellent deal for early birds

Reviewed By NicWang

We got a really great early bird deal for homepage booking at this hotel, 6000 JPY spending coupons during our stay! The coupons could be used for drinks and food items during dinner or for souvenir shopping. The early bird deal also included 1 free use of the family bath. We were pleasantly surprised to find a massage chair in our room! A savior after our tiring day. Dinner was great too. The hotel staff didn't speak English but they used a translating device and it was still possible to understand each other.

Quiet lake with swans, nice host, good foods

Reviewed By Pulmi2018

A bit far from the city center of Niigata but it is worth visiting. It is located beside a quiet lake. The room we stayed in had a nice view of the lake. We visited there early March and had a luck to see swans flying in and off the lake through the window of the room. We enjoyed a nice walk around the lake. The host was very nice and the food was great. I and my husband really wish to stay at this hotel when we go back to Niigata.
