Portugal’s Mediterranean charm is most prominent on the golden beaches of the Algarve; in the wilderness of the Azores islands; among the vineyards of Douro Valley; and on the cobbled streets of Lisbon and Porto, where old-world culture meets cosmopolitan bars and restaurants.

Located downtown Lisbon, in Chiado, Casa Balthazar is part of the city’s history.Balthazar, the founder of the famous Confeitaria Nacional (the oldest pastry in Lisbon), acquired this beautiful property in August 1882. The house, with wonderful views to the castle and Rossio, still belongs to the family. The old factory, where all the cookies were produced to Confeitaria Nacional, including the famous “pastel de nata” and many other old recipies, became a restaurant. The family atmosphere can be felt in the living rooms and rooms which provides comfort and a unique experience.Come learn more about Lisbon and you’ll have a surprise.
What a great location! We were able to walk to many of Lisbon’s wonderful restaurants, shops, museums and parks. The rooms were clean, spacious, artfully decorated and cosmopolitan. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of fruit, pastries, excellent coffee and more. The staff was helpful with recommendations. We will definitely return to Casa Balthazar!

In 2001 we drove by a quaint, beautiful, old rose colored chalet in Sintra with a > sign hanging on a white door. Having searched for months for a home in Sintra, the locale of Luis' dream place to live, we thought - why not look at this charming "fixer upper"? It was nearly sundown when we entered the beautiful rooms with painted high ceilings and as the light flowed through the winter veranda overlooking the lush green gardens it was love at first sight. A dozen years later and having lived through rainy humid winters with old cracked windows and creaky floors, our home is completely restored and refurbished. It has taken four long years but the outcome is better than expected as we have stayed true to the style and essence of this peculiar type of architecture. The chalet style was imported at the end of the XIX century from the Alps and was used to build vacation homes throughout Portugal. Now our home and guesthouse is enjoying its second life and we hope to continue our mission that we have developed at our cafe - Cafe Saudade. This cafe is a few meters from the chalet and it is here where breakfast is served all day to our guests. Our mission is to provide, with the utmost quality, an authentic Portuguese experience to all of our visitors to Sintra. We hope this is what you experience when you stay with us. Cheers, and long life to the old-new Chalet Saudade!
An old villa converted into a quaint hotel. Clean and attractive however, being an old house on the hill our room was in -2 floor with no elevator and we can hear the water flushing and running in the pipes. It is affiliated with a Saudades breakfast restaurant that is to die for… out of this world delicious breakfast and amazing service.

It was very unusual hotel. The front desk person took us to our room in different building near by. They renovated very old building, something like 300 years old, to stylish hotel. Coimbra was situated on lots of hills and the hotel was on top of on of those hills. Hence, our room had great views. There’s a big jacuzzi inside of the room and we really enjoyed it. The room was beautifully decorated and had nice smart TV and small refrigerator with complimentary water bottles, iced tea and beer bottles. There’s nice thick bathrobes too. They gave us welcome cake and champagne. The hotel staff brought our breakfast in a basket each morning to our room. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. They asked us if we wanted our room cleaned when they brought our breakfast but I only asked for new towels and they brought them to us promptly. It was quite a hill to walk up from the main streets but you could take Uber and it’s inexpensive like ~ 5 euros. And since it’s old building, there’s no elevators. But the staff helped us to carry our suitcases up to our room. If they could add little counter space inside of bathroom so we could put our toiletries that would have been great. We’re pleasantly surprised how beautiful and clean our room was. If I go back to Coimbra, I would definitely stay there again.

Oh my oh my, a hidden gem on the backstreets of Porto. From the minute my husband & I got there at 10pm on a lovely warm Friday evening it was jaw dropping. We met our parents who had travelled from Galicia and we sat out till midnight just chatting and taking the evening view of a floodlit castle..breathtaking…our only concern were the steps up to the breakfast room (which was stunning & a chandelier to die for) I am disabled & my father in law is not at ease with his legs at present and there were a lot of steps but we managed. (There is no lift in the main building) other than that, absolutely no complaints whatsoever….

The space The name «República - Bed & Breakfast & Arts» relates to the background’s lusitanian origin as well as its connection to the arts. Each room represents a burgh gifted with pieces of art which associated with it. Guest access Apart from the rooms’ sheltered compasses, we offer access to a wide and cozy kitchen as well as a living room with a TV and a dining room where breakfast is served. In a matter of necessity, we grant a fridge and microwave at hand. Interaction with guests Our insight on Lisbon on a day to day basis is fuelled by a special zest for the social, gastronomical and cultural nuances. We are more than happy to share it with you having arranged some partnerships that may help provide some unique experiences! The neighborhood The neighbourhood, located in Avenidas Novas, central Lisbon is comprised of long avenues garnished with lovely châteaux scattered throughout mixed with some more modern buildings. It’s the city’s business center counting on a diverse and sophisticated means of commerce. Also, right under our nose, we see the famous Campo Pequeno’s bullring built brick by brick in the 19th century being one of Lisbon’s main show halls and concert venue. Getting around - 5km from the Airport (10 minute drive or 11 by tube) - Tube/metro station: Campo Pequeno - 8 Bus lines: 207, 727, 736, 738, 744, 749, 754 e 783 - Right next to the train station which reaches Sintra - Large paid parking area near the Bullring - Taxi rank at the door Other things to note Scattered throughout the rooms’ walls - relating to a specific neighbourhood of Lisbon - are exposed some art pieces from promising artists associated to the respective neighbourhood.
I was traveling to Lisbon with 7month old baby and was a bit nervous about accommodation but I should admit that everything was exceptionally clean, room was nice, with balcony, Manuel and Ana were very hospitable. Explained us everything. Especially where to hop on in famous yellow tram to get some free seats. Transport is easily accessible from the accommodation, breakfast was very nice always with fresh bread and croissants. There is elevator so if you have baby buggy it’s no problem to take it all the way up to the 4th floor. They also have high chair, some board games, nice living room where guests can gather. Overall I highly recommend the place.

I travel solo and this guesthouse has made me feel so welcome. It is extremely central to all of Lisbon and accessible to further afield with ease. The staff are exemplary and at the same time down to earth and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble for them. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. I am so comfortable here ?

The Hotel Mondego is the new kid on the block, and we very much enjoyed it. For starters, the location is PERFECT. The rooms are clean and smartly appointed, with a minimalist sensibility. Beds and linens are lovely, and housekeeping is great. The bathrooms are also clean and modern and EVERYTHING works perfectly, including a rain shower head with great water pressure. Breakfast is good; the presentation is not exciting, but the selection is spot-on. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Coimbra.

This is sad, but unfortunately true: I booked my stay in Tesouro da Baixa for 2 nights in Booking.com. The staff for check in and check out was super nice and welcoming, the room number 601 looked realy nice and well decorated. However, to my unfortunate surprise, I found 2 bugs - 1 in the bathroom and another one on the right side of my bed, in the wall!!! The bug is known as "peixinho da prata" in Portugal. I reported the issue to the hotel reception in the morning after, during my check out. After checking out, I communicate myself with the hotel by email to see what could be done for me as a compensation as I had paid a lot of money to stay in a room that is obviously not clean!!! This cannot happen in this type of accomodations. The hotel made an offer by email that was not interesting for me and I declined it. After that, to avoid receiving bad online review from my side, the hotel did a move that I was honestly not expecting: they marked my stay as a no-show in Booking.com with the single purpose of avoiding a bad but true review from my side!!! They are aware I stayed there, but they prefered to lie to Booking.com - what a move. I do not reccomend at all this hotel - they have bugs in the room, they lie to Booking.com and to be honest overpriced!!! Do not stay there.

Location by the river is good particularly in the evening for eating choices and strolls. No late noise issues though. Staff all very helpful. Decor very tasteful and different - not at all boringly corporate. Our room was large had a comfy bed and a lovely fitted bathroom. Bit limited on drawer space but not a problem for a short break. Lovely communal seating areas with comfy seats and tables. Breakfast choice ok, nice touch providing a packed one for early flights. All in all good value and happily recommend this hotel
