Views of the sound are outstanding. Request a sound front room and you are all but in the water overseeing an incredible sunset. The deck outside the rooms is not private but it is generally quiet. Rooms are well maintained. Caroline at the front desk is outstanding. Muffins and bagels and cereal are included in the mornings. Price is very reasonable.

It's just average.

Reviewed By Posneg

This inn was OK. There was a fridge and microwave in the room and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The towels were plush. The walls are thin and we heard our neighbors late at night and early morning throughout the stay. The A/C unit is loud and one lamp had a burned out bulb. Overall just an average place. No ice on the premises.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay here. While a tad hard to locate once located it was a breeze to get to and from places on the island and around. The ambiance was nice in the main dining area and we REALLY enjoyed our breakfasts each day we were there. 3 other couples allowed us to talk about many and various topics around breakfast and the Inn Keeper joined us on morning #2. great memorabilia around coke cola products in the main room. TV was limited but she had a large collection of VHS and DVD's to browse through. Even with her small dogs there was no real noises or barking to concern us with.

Adequate

Positives: Helpful and friendly staff, nice view of Silver Lake and Adirondack chairs on the balcony for guests to use. You can walk to the Community Center, Marina and Village Craftsmen shop. Negatives: The harsh weather has taken a toll on the rooms and ours was damp, especially after a thunderstorm. The location is not the quietest. This is a pet friendly motel and people left their yappy dogs in their rooms when they went out.

What a beautiful, comfortable inn. It is on the bay side of the outer banks, not the ocean but the view is stll beautiful. the room is great with antique but comfortable furniture. What a treat. I was looking for a place that was nice to start and end our day as we explore the area. This was just the place. I can also imagine staying around for the day if we hadn’t lucked on with such nice weather. The owners were helpful but not obtrusive. Looking forward to another visit.

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just taking a trip with your special someone, there’s always something for you to enjoy here. Cameron House Next Door

Cameron House Inn is in transition! The original inn has closed, but beginning in late spring 2021, four rooms will open up right next door – thus our new name, Cameron House Next Door. But until those rooms open, we still have one active room, The Sandpiper. This room has a dedicated porch below it with a wood-burning fireplace just for your use during cool weather, and it's a breezy perch perfect for relaxing or reading when it's warmer outside. The Sandpiper is right behind the old inn, so you're close to all the amenities that Manteo has to offer as well as to nearby attractions. Oh, and an extra plus: You're welcome to bring your pooch with you!

Quiet Launching Point for the Outer Banks

Reviewed By Richard H

My wife and I stayed here over the 4th of July with our two small dogs. Having never been to the Outer Banks before, we didn't really know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. First, I think the location of Cameron House is pretty close to ideal. You're within easy walking distance of the harbor in Manteo, with shops and restaurants and a lot of boardwalks around the water. I was quite impressed with the town. There might not be a ton to do on Roanoke Island, but that's exactly the point. You're on a quiet side street in a quiet town, but within easy driving distance of the entire Outer Banks. Every day we visited a different landmark or beach, and it was so nice to come back to a nice quiet home base. In the future, I would not trade Manteo for any location on the outer islands, which can be quite busy and crowded. A little less so this year given the pandemic, but there were still tons of people out there. Manteo is the ideal median. The Inn itself was also great, if you're looking for something quaint and quiet. Because we had the dogs, we stayed in the Sandpiper Room, upstairs in the annex building (attached to the owners' house, actually). That was pretty nice, because we weren't bordering any other rooms and our dogs wouldn't bother anyone. It was a bit weird to enter the stairway to our room through a screened porch shared with the owners' house, but we never actually saw them, just their dog. The main Inn house itself was pretty quiet, but well stocked. One of the best things about the Inn is that they keep a constant stash of drinks and snacks and desserts refreshed in the kitchen. Can't say how many times we grabbed water bottles or drinks there before heading out in the July heat. "Snacks" also included fresh baked cookies every day and some really awesome cakes and cupcakes, which were constantly being replaced. Wherever they got those cakes from would also be a very worthy stop for visitors. Breakfast at the Inn was basic, but sufficient, and Michael was helpful with tips for visitors on where to go and where to eat out. The back patio at the Inn house was really enjoyable, although the July heat made things pretty toasty during the day. Our dogs would wake me up early, so I spent a lot of quiet morning hours sitting on the back porch. If it were colder, there was a fireplace that would have been nice to sit by. The Inn's cat, Jack, is quite friendly and will probably hop up into your lap if you sit there long enough. I imagine the rooms in the main house might be a bit noisy if the Inn is full, but the Sandpiper Room is isolated and therefore extremely quiet. Also mitigating against any real socializing with other guests were the pandemic adjustments made by the Inn to keep everyone safe. We only really ever saw other guests at breakfast, for which you need to sign up for a time slot the night before. If/when we return to the Outer Banks, I would definitely look into staying here again. It would be particularly fun with a group of friends or family. And I can't recommend Manteo enough, unless you want to be right in the middle of the craziness on the outer islands.
