Old, Smelly & Buggy

Reviewed By Getaway136904

This hotel is old and smelly & in terrible shape. The carpets are torn and look like they have not been cleaned ever. I sat on the bed and thought someone was knocking at the door but it was the sound of the bed. I saw a bug run a cross the floor. I checked out the same day I checked in. They have to make this hotel non-refundable because everybody would want their money back.

Lovely Visit to the City

This is a great establishment with friendly and accommodating staff. In the city, location is everything and this place has it! It was clean and well appointed. We stayed in the very bottom level which was cool during the summer heat. It's a historic building so expect that it's not perfect but that's part of the charm!

Very underwhelming

Reviewed By Yohanna12345

This is a very underwhelming experience. The room was not at all as cute as it looked on the photos, and when I saw the really old and (it looked dirty) blanket on the bed I just wanted to leave again. I stayed here in late May, but I had to sleep with a hoodie, pants and socks on because it got cold during night. The one thing that was good was that the bathroom was clean and fresh.

Poor value

Three of us stayed on the first floor room at the end of the hall. Positives: The room was spacious and there were easy instructions for after hours check in. One of the staff members was very friendly and tried to be helpful. We also appreciated that there was a kitchenette with a sink and microwave in the room. The beds were decently comfortable. Being so close to Central Park was really nice, and we spent a lot of time in the park. If you do stay here, I highly recommend Amy Ruth's restaurant. The building has a lot of character, and the room has a really pretty fire place. Negatives: The worst part was the temperature regulation. There was no way to turn off the radiator, and it was insanely hot. The windows would not stay open without being propped, and one of them had a completely torn screen. The neighborhood also did not feel safe enough to have the windows open. None of the windows locked, which really bothered us since we were on the main level. We had to run the air conditioner because of the radiator issues, and it was about 30 degrees outside. You may want to avoid staying here with small children because there were two pipes, one right next to the bed and one in the kitchen, that got very hot when the radiator was running. Also, we were not able to get a good night's sleep because everyone is loud. It might have been better if we were on the second floor and not staying underneath a family. Because it's a shared bathroom, which we knew going in, others can take over the shared space. One night, another guest was in the shower for almost an hour while we were waiting. They do allow you to use the bathrooms on other floors, but with a full facility, this wasn't possible. On a different night, a guest knocked on our door after midnight to ask for bottled water. Because there was no deadbolt on the door, we felt very unsafe at that moment. In the kitchenette, the microwave didn't work very well and they only provided decaf coffee. They didn't provide cleaning supplies, and it would have been nice to have especially during COVID with shared spaces. This may be nitpicky, but for around $160 per night, we expected a bit better than single ply toilet paper, scratchy towels, and terrible pillows. If you stay here, I suggest bringing your own. Aside from the hotel itself, the neighborhood felt a little unsafe. We saw multiple fights and many people asking for money. The closest subway station seemed to attract a lot of people asking for money. The trash in front of the buildings in the neighborhood attracted rats as well.

Unique lodging in the city

Reviewed By 97lindal97

Found this gem by searching for "unique lodging" in NYC and it really fit the bill. Great place to stay if you're looking for a good location, a unique experience and don't want to spend a fortune. If you're into spa resorts or won't settle for anything less than a Hilton, this is NOT for you. But, if you're after a friendly place with a funky vibe (and a resident cat) where you can catch a few Z's (if the noises of the city don't keep you from sleeping), this is your place! We arrived early so only one room was open at the time (they usually like to let you look around and choose your own room), but we were able to check in early and leave our bags to pick up later after checkout. Rooms are not fancy, so again, if that's what you're looking for, this isn't your kind of hotel. But they are adequate with clean linens and beds that are comfortable enough to get a good night's rest. Note: Some rooms do have shared bathrooms. Our room was called "sleep thinking"...still don't think I understand the mural (maybe I'm not supposed to), but it was interesting to discuss among ourselves. Really enjoyed the experience of our brief stay and would definitely stay again!

Made a reservation prior to checking the reviews, I know mistake on my part. After reading them from several different sites I decided to cancel the reservation. I started getting harassing text messages in the middle of the night from who I assume is the owner of the property telling me I should not have canceled without consulting him and that most reviews aren't true. Rather they are or not you have no right to text someone, especially in the middle of the night. Now I for sure will NOT reconsider. Also well over $200 for a tiny tiny bedroom....NOPE. Go to Airbnb or MisterBandB and you will get much better rates at other properties.

The worst place to stay in the world ever

Reviewed By 948rasmuss

I'm suprised I did not kill myself during my stay here. I know you get what you pay for, but its a difference between choosing a simpler place to live and living in a place that is filthy. Never in the history of mankind have there been a dirtier place than this. If it looks like someone through up on your wall, the cleaning is not good at all (or rather not excisting at all). Extremly small rooms with no inside roof, so you hear everything your neighbours do. The one reason I choose this place rather than a hostel was the private rooms, but its not private at all. You would get moore privacy if you slept on the street. The bathrooms have no toilet paper and don't seem to have been cleaned since the bathrooms were built (and believe me, this building is old). I'm suprised its even legal to have a place like this, its just a hughe health hazard. Even though its cheap, you dont get what you pay for, even if they would pay you to stay here, you still would not get your moneys worth. I have been to a lot of places all over the world an stay at places with the same price range, and even the worst one of those have been much better than this. Thank you for reading, now i'm going to pray and thank God that I against all odds survived my stay at this place.

One Major Deal Breaker! Do not stay here, if continuous thunderous noise bothers you.

I would give this property 4 starts EXCEPT that there is a Retro Gym on the ground floor beneath the hotel rooms. Apparently, this gym REQUIRES that members drop the free weights or plates on the weight machines. Either that or there are sever localized earthquakes centered on this hotel CONTINUOUSLY THUD, THUD THUD. Actually the actually noise isn't the worse. But when ever a weight falls your room, the entire building, and even the little parking lot out front on Queens Boulevard shakes. It is unnerving. And, uninviting and inhospitable. Unless they can find a way to fix this, DO NOT STAY here Too Bad, otherwise a nice place, decent service, new building and a comfort spot not far from US OPEN/Flushing Meadow and LGA. location: terrible in that it is ABOVE a factory floor manufacturing earth-shaking weights. Otherwise a GREAT Location for Queens. It is even only a 15-20 trip to Manhattan in nice neighborhood near lots of great shopping (IKEA, COSTCO, Big mall). Good Value.

Sonder City Hall Park

The hustle and bustle of the Financial District magically melts away as soon as you step through City Hall Park’s French-style doors and into the stunning entryway of floor-to-ceiling greenery. This urban gem sits just off Broadway among some of the most well-known locations on Wall Street. With City Hall Park to the north and Battery Park to the south, you have easy access to verdant oases among the concrete jungle of the Big Apple. The exciting blend of the metropolitan and the organic spills into every room, where biophilic design and bright, modern touches transform every space into a personal retreat. Here to work? The communal laundry facilities and room options with double workspaces make it easy to perform at your best. Here to play? The city is your oyster, and we can’t wait to see what you discover.

Very convenient Sonder.you can walk 5 steps to Duane pharmacy. 1/2 mile away to shopping - Lululemon, Gucci, etc Subway stop at Fulton street is 100feet away. The rooms can range from a studio (256$ per night with a king bed and small kitchen) to nice big rooms (room 808 which has a walk in closet, a triangular dining table, and a separate kitchen room. Rooms are very clean. I like the fact that you don’t have to have your room clean every day. If you need more towels you go through the app. You use the app to launch a mobile key that will get you into the Sonder and into your room. If you happen to have an issue like we did, where the air conditioner just stopped working, you use the app to report an issue. Or in our case, we just told the front desk.
