Strikingly set on the Andoni plains, one kilometre from Etosha National Park’s King Nehale gate is Etosha King Nehale. The lodge effortlessly portrays the shape of an Nguni cattle head, with chalets stunningly furrowed to the north and south, from the central area like a bull’s horns. Upon walking into the reception and curio shop, boma and dining areas, the Oshiwambo ethos is intriguingly evident from colours, fabrics, cutlery, chandelier, table engravings with impactful proverbs and other embellishments. The chalets are spacious and stylishly adorned with a touch of Oshiwambo cultural ornaments, and each has its own plunge pool, allowing guests to behold boundless horizons of the Andoni plains. – Fit for a king and queen. The lodge hosts 40 rooms and pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of the area. There is one detail that puts this lodge over the top: It is its private access to a secluded waterhole, Ontalelo Outpost, which is set in the Etosha National Park. This waterhole is reserved for Etosha King Nehale guests allowing them to immerse themselves in the tranquillity of nature and observe the rich diversity of the animal world in this corner of paradise. To the north, the conservancy is surrounded by the pulsating life of the communal areas of the Oshikoto, Oshana, Ohangwena and Omusati regions. This new Gondwana lodge gives guests the opportunity to combine the natural wonders of Etosha with the cultural vibrancy of the Aawambo people. Royal treatment awaits.
Have to admit that I was a bit biased when arriving; comparing everything to Gondwana's Desert Grace. While Desert Grace gets full stars, there is one thing that King Nehale had that stood out from the rest and that is: Generous Hospitality- scoring an 11/10. The day before travel I got a call that patches of the road at Nehale gate is bad with deep-sunken mud/gunk (because of previous rains), and requires a 4X4. On arrival day, the King-Nehale team fetched us at the gate and pulled us out of the gunk when we got stuck the following day. Working tirelessly outside their normal work requirements and going out of their way to make our stay memorable and pleasant. The highlight was the evening; with delicious food, overflow of drinks, night at the boma with their special traditional performances and even a birthday song! Open hands of generosity and memorable entertainment. We enjoyed singing and dancing with all of you. Wish I could name and thank all the staff here, but a special word of thanks has to go to Davis. Your efforts were seen and greatly appreciated! Thank you King Nehale till next time!

We have spent 18 days touring Namibia and this has to one of the best properties we stayed at. We stayed 2 nights at the lodge and the hospitality offered by Frikkie and Hilde the owners and all the staff was incredible. Breakfast and dinner were superb with freshly cooked meals on every sitting and excellent variety of dishes. Accommodation. We had 2 rooms and both were very well laid out, very clean with all modern requirements and very quirky. If you stay here please leave time to travel to the west side of Fish River Canyon as recommended by Frikkie. Big thanks to all.
