This Residencial occupies upper floors of a commercial building. The rooms look like 1950s throwbacks. However they are clean and big enough. The breakfast is served at the table by the proprietor, but not until 8:00 a.m. Quantities are adequate, however selection is limited. If your only language is English you may face a few problems.

a bit outside of centre but on a hill (with a view) and quiet, brandnew (a bit overdone), nice host, ok breakfast (loads of cakes), easy to walk downtown, fair price, recommended. and: take a walk northeast along the douro which is deep down in the canyon, and wild. wonderful landscape, villages, and stones. and hardly any tourists...

I am not commenting about the hotel but the restaurant of the hotel which seems to be a local refrence. Food was average, served in very large rations. We eat three different types of cod, none of them really surprising but all fairly good. They do not have a large asortment of wines and none of them is really good. We drunk both bottled and home wine. Their locally produced ham was tasty but again not outstanding. To sum up, not a place for foodies but definetely value for money as we paid 83 euros for 6 people.

we arrived quite late for our destination for the day, and as we didn't want to look for accommodation too late, we choose this establishment. the rooms are very basic. nothing to write home about. the lights in the room, can easily be replaces by a candle! the room was clean. we were told that breakfast will be serve by 0800. there was no one to serve or make preparations. the bar/reception area was filthy from the night before. at 0820, the receptionist came, claiming we have nothing to complain about as the breakfast suppose to be serve at 0800 sharp (???) ha ha ha

Good size and very clean rooms but bar was closed, no restaurant and a very basic breakfast. Local bars stank of stale tobacco and main part town difficult to find a good restaurant. It was a cheap night and it was late October (and I'd crashed the bike earlier in the day) but expected a bit more. Secure motor cycle parking and great roads to the South (N221).

Puial de l Douro is an ancient family house recently recovered for countryside tourism allowing you to keep in touch with the History of the region and feel all the peace of the village of Aldeia Nova in the heart of the Natural Park of International Douro, while having all the confort you could wish for. With us you can enjoy our library, taste our wines, hike, ride a bicycle or learn Mirandese.
A real gem. Quiet, spotlessly clean and a very nice owner who made us most welcome. The sort of place that large hotel companies should send their staff to. Totally EXCELLENT. We would have stayed for 3/4 days but unfortunately they were fully booked. There was no need to wonder why. We will return. These sort of places are well worth a detour. WE'LL DONE to them.

Casa da Ti Cura, Atenor is quite unique. Our charming one-bedroom stone cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The lovely fresh bread, jams, eggs and cheese that our hosts provided were a surprise and an added delight – not to mention the cake and other goodies. Our large terrace looked out across the courtyard to the Mirandese Donkey enclosure, the hills beyond and the sunset – a view we enjoyed each evening as we sipped our gin and tonic – in fact, it was all so relaxing that we extended our stay. This ancient Portuguese village is also home to the AEPGA – the Association that exists to protect the Burros de Miranda. Our host took us to see the River Douro that runs the border between Spain and Portugal in this area (National Park) – a place of wild beauty – huge boulders, waterfalls and deep ravines above which we saw the Golden Eagle and Griffin Vulture soar – it was all so unforgettable. Thank you to our wonderful hosts - Bárbara and José.
