Very Good, but could be Excellent!

Reviewed By TofferJesty

There is no doubt, this hotel really is lovely, a beautiful location by the river in a quiet village. A stunning, sympathetic restoration with modern, contemporary touches. The food was excellent - presentation, flavour and choice all superb! Sadly, they need to invest in more staff and customer service training - even though the hotel was not busy, we were regularly kept waiting at reception, at breakfast and at the bar and on several occasions, received an unwelcoming response. However, it is soon to be part of the Marriott Group and perhaps this will improve?

Sercotel Logrono Suites

You will be able to walk around the centre without being too far from your accommodation. In the vicinity, you will discover impressive historic monuments, taverns and shops. The old town is full of narrow streets where you will be able to enjoy the unbeatable cuisine of Logroño. Snack on some ‘pinchos’ (like tapas) whilst you sample the great Rioja wines or book a table in one of the best restaurants of this area. There is a long list of bars and restaurants in the old town of Logroño offering culinary options for all tastes. IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: The apartments at Sercotel Logroño Suites feature an automatic access system.

Luxury suite at affordable price

Reviewed By Leeyuk

Professionally managed, large, luxurious, modern, the suites are superb value. A hall, dining area, kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom are clean and sleek, colour matched, quiet and discreet. Self check in is easy and efficient. Suites boast a modern look, with steel, glass and granite in whites and greys with fake wooden floors. Kitchenette has modern appliances, would be better if instruction cards were included, as not everyone is familiar with sleek European equipment. Also kitchen towels or handcloth would be very handy. Other than these small issues, this is an excellent accommodation for modern service suites in Logrono.

Historic Artistic Monument style Catholic kings and plateresque built in stone masonry. Once housed the Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of Mercy, founded in 1509 by the bishop of Calahorra. The hotel houses 15 spacious fully equipped rooms, where the bathrooms are playing an important role, equipped with large jacuzzis and original decorative elements like stones set in wrought iron, single washbasins, mirrors, curtains and tiles. All with the features of a boutique hotel.

Missed opportunity

Reviewed By martinezcm

What can you you to completely miss the opportunity to transform a 500 year old monastery into a destination hotel. Plenty. The owners ought to have visited some paradores with the same pedigree elsewhere in Spain and learn. Instead they chose a Hodge podge of elements that increase the level of misdirection and do not give comfort or a sense of cleanliness. The bathrooms in particular are a disaster calling for redemption. The tiles are mold infested and the old jacuzzis do not inspire a will to fill and in jump in. The shower is useless and difficult to handle without splashing all over. The electrical fixtures do not give enough light creating visibility problems where they are most needed, over the sinks. The breakfast/dining potential is wasted with poor lightning and a proper explanation that this was the cellar and the huge overhanging wooden bats were built on site to make wine. Since there is no pamphlet in any language the meaning of the site is lost and just looks weird with a rivulet running along the side, probably from the river Oja, the life giving river for the entire region. Service is not polished and very poor.So is breakfast. We had booked for two days through Booking and could have cancelled the 16 of September but sept 19 received a mail saying that in the second day of our stay a 3 day festival lasting all night, would be held and "invited us to join it". After arrival were told that indeed music and songs would last all night and sleep would be impossible. They had cancelled upon request other reservations but since hours was through Booking they would not do it. They claimed they did not know the exact date of the festival until very late and blamed City Hall for it (?). They did not show the least amount of sympathy and insisted that if we left we would have to pay for that. This we did, lost the fare but got to another more comfortable and silent hotel in nearby Navarre. By the way, they advertise free parking, Indeed it is free, it is in streets nearby. On a holiday it may be some blocks away.

Just okay

Reviewed By Marieinparis_11

We had a room in the annex building, a short walk from main building (which looked beautiful), on the ground floor. The room was quite small, and the shower/toilet just had glass walls so no soundproofing. Unfortunately there was a slight smell in the room (hidden at first by very strong plugged-in air freshener, which we unplugged because of the chemical smell). Maybe the rooms in the main building were nicer and bigger.... Everything was clean, and the service was kind. The town itself is quite small, with little choice for places to eat, and we would have stayed in Laguardia if we had known enough about both towns...

Finca Torre de Brinas

Loved it!

Reviewed By billbX3563AJ

What a find! This new-ish hotel sits in Brinas, just a few miles north of Haro. What it lacks in location amenities, it more than makes up for in other areas. The front desk clerk, while struggling with limited English, was extremely gracious in showing us around the property, when we first arrived. We immediately tried out the pool, which was great. There was a glass of 'welcome wine' for each of us upon arrival. the grounds were spotless, as was our spacious room. Everything is new, clean, classy and comfortable. There is a small pool table downstairs, along with a fully-stocked honor bar and snack area. Our room was VERY quiet and parking was within the gated property, so very safe. If you're exploring La Rioja via car and want to stay in the general Haro region, I strongly recommend considering Finca Torre.

Unforgettable overnight stay in castle keep - dog friendly

Reviewed By engalgado

This casa rural is a little off the beaten track, but well worth the effort to track down. We were on our way from northern France to southern Spain. The owner is a lovely lady who gave us a warm welcome even though we arrived late at night. Our room was on the first floor of the castle keep - spotlessly clean with hanging pictures of knights in armour on the walls. You get to it via your own private lift. Slept in four poster bed. Breakfast next morning was fruit, toast and coffee in the downstairs dining room. The village is in the Rioja wine growing area and must be quite wealthy. There's a circular walk for you and your dog around the Cerro El Castillar before continuing on your journey.
