Good place to relax

This is a good place to relax. The onsen experience is good. The food is good. The room is good, note there is no bed only mattress. The service is good. Only thing not good is the location, no other eateries nearby, no shopping centre nearby.

Great service

Reviewed By lilsupawomun

We arrived by taxi and there was already a staff waiting to greet us at the entrance. She helped us with our luggage (very heavy). Once we settled into the lobby, we were offered hot tea and sweets. After checking in, a female staff pushed our luggage up to our guest room. She knew little to no English, but was very courteous throughout. She told us that our key card can have access to another public bath in the adjacent building, which was cool. After that, we left the room and went for dinner. When we came back, we noticed a staff setup a tatami in the living room for us. Since we have two adults and one child, they set up an extra bed. So kind! The room was huge. It is unlike any other Japanese hotel. I would call this a modern ryokan. Our room came with a private onsen bath, it was so convenient to enjoy a night and morning onsen. It also came with a view. We have two beds and one tatami. The toilet was separate from the traditional bath. There was a double sink with huge mirrors. I love how they have bath towel racks. Also, there was a cute dining area and a sectional sofa in the living room. There was also an option to use the public bath on the first floor. We tried it and nobody was there. We had the bath all to ourselves! For this room, we got free buffet breakfast. The food was alright, lots of selection. It filled us up. We checked out after one night of stay. The staff helped us call a taxi. Overall, it was a nice experience to stay. It was a memorable stay with my family. Thank you!

Excellent ryokan experience

Stayed for one night. Modern, spacious rooms, very comfortable. We selected the dinner option, it was a very good 5 course meal, we had a hard time finishing it. Appreciated that they accommodated my wifes special requests for dinner (allergies). Breakfast was excellent with a variety of choices. Onsen consisted of indoor and outdoor pools and was very nice. Friendly and helpful staff! Overall excellent stay if you want a mid size quiet ryokan.

Expensive with smoke room

Reviewed By Grace A

We booked this hotel because other hotels were booked out. We stayed for a night for 32,400 yen. We were given a smoke room and this was not told in advance. We are non-smokers and had to stay suffocated for the whole night. The onsen is small and too hot (I tried onsen in other hotels before). The price we paid was too expensive for such an unpleasant experience.

Wonderful Wedding Anniversary

Reviewed By AndraYo

Some time ago we stayed here for our 35th Wedding Anniversary, which Ichi no Matsu made a great celebration for us. See photo. A lovely Ryokan with the famous Yunokawa Hot Springs in the Baths and even though Hakodate is a big city, it is very quiet and relaxing. They are known for the quality of their food, freshest seafood-amazing squid! Very cleverly plated on beautifully designed china. Even breakfast was served in our room which is rare these days of buffet... Kamisama (Ryokan Mistress) was explaining about the unusual tatami corridors-usually the mats are just in the rooms, and the hallways are wood. Here it is a constant flow of tatami (look for the large Koi sewed into the tatami in the main entrance!)

Booked through hotels.com. After we checked in, we were told that our reservation did not include dinner. WTF - does any onset ryokan not include dinner? I paid $360 to stay at a crappy, outdated room with no dinner?! Are you kidding me? I would not recommend this place to anyone. Be aware. If you are the hotel manager, come talk to me now. I just checked in.
