Welcome to Gosoku-no-kutsu a traditional Japanese luxury RYOKAN&SPA,located on the west coast of Kyushu in Southwest Japan. In July 2002, there were 10 individual units called'Villas A/B'. In 2005, 5 more villas were added. These 'Villas C' are situated higher on the hillside, featuring a different view, cuisine, and atmosphere. In essence, these two sets of villas can be thought of as completely separate from one another. Regardless, every villa has its own private open air bath fed by a natural hot spring, as well as an indoor bath. We invite you to select the villa that best matches your preferences.
I was able to arrange to be picked up at a museum in the city which was very convenient. The van may pick up several guests, usually the bus station, airport, or ferry which all have a fixed schedule. There were several groups in our van and when we arrived at the hotel, there was a large group of staff waiting for us. Each staff member greeted a guest group and handled luggage. Beautiful property feels jungle-y. The website explains the story behind the architecture for the different villa units. My favorite feature was the private rotenburo. It was created in a natural setting and the water was always nice and hot, private too and can catch the sunset on the ocean. The villas are very large and have detailed descriptions online too. Meals are taken in individual dining rooms in a building that mimics a chapel, including the medieval chorus music. Dinner is a lot of food and includes all sorts of local ingredients such as ise ebi (spiny lobster), utsubo Moray eel, local cow. Dinner and breakfast are both Japanese. The hotel is named for a collection of writings by a group of five dudes in the early 1920s. There is a walking path (Literary Path several km long) with the same name which runs thru the property. After breakfast, I spotted part of the path that looked very quaint so I asked if guests could walk on it. They said yes, so I head off on the path in my yukata and zori sandals. It was flat for a bit but then it started going into the forest area where it was muddy and had rough stone steps. Plus huge spider webs across the path including spiders that glow fluorescent green. And got bit by mosquito a bunch of times. I was determined to forge on, followed the signs but must have taken a wrong turn somewhere cause I ended up on the highway. In my yukata and zori slippers. And my cell phone lost service so I couldn't check Google maps or call the hotel. Cars zoomed by but there was one car parked on the side so I asked if I could use his phone. He offered to drive me back which was very nice of him. So be prepared if you plan to take the quaint looking path that's on property. Wear proper shoes, bring bug spray, and have a stick to wave in front of you for the spider webs. Don't get lost.

My husband, 5 year old son and I stayed at this inn for 1 night after viewing Dolphins. The place is very small with just a few rooms, but we enjoyed the simplicity and convenience. We stayed on the ground floor and the tatami room was big enough for all 3 of us. The onsen room was just next door and spacious. The breakfast had a good variety and was delicious. The location is a little off but I would recommend this little place for its simple and stylish decoration.
