Positioned at the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol, Nerja boasts nearly 10 miles of powdery beaches featuring activities like water skiing, scuba diving and sailing. Although tourist-oriented, it hasn't been overtaken by high-rises, and its huge promenade delivers panoramic Mediterranean views.

The beach has beautiful sand--tiny, rounded rocks that you sink your feet into and let the ocean massage. Like a spa in the sun. And good foot showers so you can clean off and not track the sand into your car. Ummmm.

El Salón Beach is one of Nerja’s larger beaches with over 200 meters of sand and surf. This beach generally won’t be extremely overcrowded as there is only one way to get to the beach and the access road can be difficult to find so it can be a nice quiet place to relax and listen to the crashing waves of the Mediterranean Sea.

We’ve spent a lot of time in and around Nerja but didn’t realise this beach existed - yet it’s only a short walk from Balcon area (from Balcon, walk along alley towards tourist shops, turn right onto Calle Hernando de Carabeo, walk couple of hundred metres and the beach overlook is on the right). From the overlook, steps take you down to the beach which is situated in a small secluded cove with clean sand. Ok so it’s a bit overlooked from various apartments and hotel rooms plus obviously a short hike down (from the overlook you can decide whether or not the steps are within your capabilities) but in my opinion it’s still one of the more attractive stretches of sand so close to Nerja centre.

Papagayo beach - otherwise known as Calahonda - is a stunning beach. Situated right next to the Balcon de Europa, it's a beautiful setting accessed without steps. Set amongst the fishing boats and fisherman's cottages, this beach is a must visit if you're going to nerja
