Rosewood Beach

Grew up swimming at Rosewood and lesser known Ravine Drive. Both are decent beaches to cool off in and Rosewood is fairly big.

Lake Shelbyville

Reviewed By waldfam - Effingham, United States

We have been boating at Lake Shelbyville for a few years and the fun and relaxation we have are second to none. The people on the lake are there to enjoy themselves and not be too crazy. The lake is large enough even on busy days it seem vacant. The lake is clean and loaded with cool bridges to see and plenty of wildlife. A must if you are in the area.

Openlands Lakeshore Preserve

Located just 25 miles north of Chicago, the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve presents a rare opportunity to visit one of the last remaining ravine and bluff ecosystems in the metropolitan region. The Illinois Nature Preserves Commission designated the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 2013, recognizing the quality of our restoration efforts. For more information, please visit Openlands.org.

We are so lucky to have this beautiful natural resource in our backyard! About a mile and half of walkway along Lake Michigan. Currently there is a an unpaved portion of "prairie" walk in the middle but I have heard from a reliable source that they have finally obtained approval to connect the two completed portions. We had no idea that this walk was being developed and were so happy when it popped up a couple of years ago. Lovely place to walk your dog, go for a run or ride your bike.

Ohio Street Beach

Reviewed By Adventure809910 - Tecumseh, Canada

This is a nice little beach located right downtown right beside the Navy Pier. It was quite busy when we were there. They had all 3 volleyball courts going ,there was a restaurant that serves alcohol as well. There are lounge chair with pad rentals and umbrella and tent with pad rentals as well. We rented 2 chairs at 10.00 each. The water is cold and the beach is sandy with no rocks or shells and it’s pretty shallow.
