A beautiful and secluded beach where one can walk a long distance.
A peaceful, short walk through the dunes to a spectacular beach! Smooth sands, crisp ocean smell, and thunderous, crashing waves will greet YOU. When looking down the shore, way off in the distance, it seems to disappear in a mist.

This beach is very clean and dog friendly! We enjoyed the calm and shallow shoreline with our kiddo and family. There are a few small caves on the north end of the beach along with some really neat sandstone/conglomerate rock faces. If you are looking for shells or rocks, this is not the place to look. If you are looking for a small quiet beach that is relatively safe for young ones to get their feet wet at, this is a great choice!

If you can make the road out to Shelter Cover, do yourself a favor and DO IT! Black sand beaches and the most stunning shades of blue ocean you will see on the West Coast!

We stopped there early in the day when it was still a bit foggy. As the fog lifted there were many beautiful rock formations out in the water. I thought we would stay on the beach but ended up taking a hike up the nearby hill. It ended up being one of my favorite hikes on our vacation. There are many breaks in the path for lookout and picture opportunities. They have carved out tiny paths between the plants that our kids crawled through. When you get to the top it extremely windy, hold onto your hat! Overall fun for the family and not too strenuous.

What an amazing place. We were virtually alone in this alien landscape when we visited last week. The black rock (from the tectonic triangle just offshore) was mesmerizing and felt almost magnetic. The fog and powerful crashing waves against the jutting rocks, the groups of blue shells punctuating the endless black and white. Even the majestic wingspan of the vulture nearby was captivating. The drive here is part of the adventure. We saw elk feeding in one gulch among the switchbacks and giant trees.

This place is popular and good luck finding a camping spot. After going around park twice and seeing no space available by noon, I noticed a rain fly com off a tent and stopped to ask if people are leaving and they said YES. It became a wonderful five day stay. Watching the meteor at night, the sunset on the ocean, hunting for gems and just playing and enjoying ourselves with family. Dude is a wonderful host.

Were looking for a place to hike near Fortuna and found this place. What a pleasant surprise. Got to see lots of Egrets and a couple of Herons and some otters. Very pleasant walk and the landscape colors are beautiful. This is a great place to visit. Bring your binoculars so you can see everything crystal clear.

If you haven’t made the short drive to this most magnificent shoreline, you are definitely missing out!! Unbelievable wild and breathtaking beach. Walk for miles if you wish, or just park and watch some of the wildest wave action you have ever seen. The sunsets are fantastic!! This lets you get up close and personal with the lost coast, most will never see. Just minutes west of Ferndale. NOT RV FRIENDLY!!! However there is a BLM parking lot up the road to turn around if you need to. But to park an RV at Centerville Beach FORGET IT!!!
