It seems like most folks have a grandmother, great-uncle or some other distant relative that used to live in Brooklyn, or perhaps a friend that lives there now. In the early 1900s, it was a mecca for immigrants arriving via Ellis Island. A hundred years later, young professionals and artists left pricey Manhattan digs for Brooklyn's cheaper and more expansive space. Neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope, which had fallen into disrepair over the years, were restored and reborn as funky enclaves. Walk or bike over the historic Brooklyn Bridge (or ride the subway) to Brooklyn Heights for a stroll along the Promenade and breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. Meander through Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for a taste of nature in the urban wilds. Catch a performance at the world-famous Brooklyn Academy of Music. From the delicious Italian restaurants of Bensonhurst to the Irish bars that line the avenues of Bay Ridge, from the hotdogs and rollercoasters of Coney Island to the bagels and handball courts of Greenpoint, Brooklyn is a state of mind as well as a dynamic community. Discover why, no matter where people move on to, they remain Brooklynites at heart.

Barcade(R) is a combination bar and arcade with a focus on classic video games and American craft beer.
My wife and I like to spend a couple days checking the town, trying the beers and spirits and of course sampling the foods everywhere we go for a rock show. We stopped at Barcade just because it looked really interesting. What a place!! Great people and drinks. Had some fantastic beers (great selection of craft beers) and played PacMan for the first time since I was 15. I didnt do so well. Bar manager was great to chat with about the town and gave us some awesome places to try during our Bang Bang trip.

Typical price for drinks in NY but they make the liquor strong. Had the chips and guac which is to die for. This is a great place for a date or social gathering.

We meant to go to a foodmarket and unfortunately it is only on during the summer. Google was wrong??! Anyway after an id check (What?..) we all got in and the mostly jazzy band started playing a sweet sound at 3 on a Saturday. The guy let us into the packed place with a stroller which he said normally is a no no. Be forewarned if you have kids. Anyway waitress was so so but there are 13 beers on tap ranging from 5.1 to 8.6 %. Tried Palm, HB, 6.2 IPA and Dunkel. The hofbrau and 8 percent Schneider are definitely "gut" as they say in German. All had different sausages which you have to get from they grill personally. Choice of Argentinean, spinach feta, kolbassa , pork, weisswurst. Pick from big buckets of mustard. Pretzel 10$ beercheese sauce Xtra 3$... A great fun place. 40 plus kinds of beer in the bottle too from all over too.
