This is a very good restaurant close to the train station, which serves the excellent Hida meat as a traditional Korean-style barbecue. You choose type and quantity of raw meat, and broil it yourself on the grill. The meat quality is super, service quick and efficient, and the decor is that of a traditional house Japanese. Of the similar restaurants I have tried in Takayama, this is the best one.

We chance upon this restaurant and ordered a set D and E. Both are hida beef combination and the other is hoba miso on a leaf . Both beef are nice where after BBQ, the fats just melt in your mouth. It serve with rice and ice cream as dessert. Not far from the red bridge..

This has to be the best steak I have ever eaten. Hida beef straight from the farm. The owner was friendly and we enjoyed the whole experience.

We ate at the cheaper place, downstairs (near the butcher's shop) and it was excellent. They only serve 3 plates, and the most expensive one (which is rather affordable) is the best. They also provide eating instructions to maximize the Hida beef pleasure. We came back to eat again. Upstairs is a more pricy restaurant, maybe it's worth trying.

Hida Takayama SakanaSupposed to be one of the best and most expensive hida beef restaurants in Takayama, it turned out to be a big disappointment.I wanted my husband to try out the Hida beef in Takayama and made special effort to find out and reserved lunch at one of the best and most expensive beef restaurants. Lunch, same as dinner, was 11,000 yen per person for their Hida beef course. This is about double the price of most of the restaurants in Takayama town centre.We had to get a taxi there because it is a bit away from the centre.We were 15 minutes late for our appointment because our bus was late due to weekend traffic.We were the only customers there and were eagerly and quickly served lunch.In spite of the price of the lunch, we were quite surprised that we were served at the bar sitting on bar stools.Beef was chewy and probably the worse we have had in Japan.Lunch was served in a hurry. Everything was over in 45 minutes.We had to go back to the centre by taxi and because we could not speak Japanese, we had to rely on the restaurant to make the call. It was such a beautiful day and the surrounding was so beautiful, we would like to take a short walk and come back for the taxi. However, it was not possible because the only two people there (chef/owner and waitress) said it's their break time. It was then when we began to understand why lunch was served in such a hurry.Very disappointed with the food and service. Much over-rated by the reviews on Trip Advisor. There is no difference between the lunch and dinner price. May be this is not the place for lunch, or they should not have opened for lunch.Such a bad and memorable experience!

The restaurant knows that the quality of the meat served is not directly related to them, that's why they have pictures from all the farmers involved, who make possible that we taste such fantastic meat (believe me: I usually don't dare to eat meat).The restaurant is connected to the butcher: ashamed I could not buy there to bring it home.Dinner's menu price was very reasonable according to the quality of the meat served. Note: if you are really hungry, need to move to the dishes not the menu that was adjusted- light.I would suggest the staff to be more friendly: even foreigners are there for a short time period, will help making the experience complete and fantastic.I'd repeat whenever I can.

In our visit in Takayama we choosed this place taste an authentic japanese dinner of Hida beef and japanese snacks . We ordered 250g of amazing Hida beef , also tasted Gyoza and typical Takayama snacks . Quality, taste and staff were TOP. We also tried 3 kind of local sake as sets are available in menu. We strongly recommend this place!!!

Waited 40 minutes, but totally worth it! The local Hida Beef is AMAZING and just melts in your mouth. Fun to cook your own, lots of different combinations of platters to order and service is prompt and efficient when needed. We ended up ordering more - it was so good! The best meal we had on our 12 day trip to Japan was in this restaurant. About 5 minutes walk from the train station and well-worth finding. If you love beef, then this is definitely the place for you. Highly recommended!

Hida-gyu beef was excellent! Simply melts in your mouth. Everyone at the table had their own grill to cook their beef and vegetables. The restaurant is attached to as sake brewery and they offer a variety of sakes. Try the lemon sake. It is quite a treat. Not inexpensive but quite a treat.

Delicious food, we loved using the Japanese charcoal BBQ to cook the Hida beef and veggies. We also ordered the sides of potatoes and pickles - yum! Friendly service with some English. Overall a bit pricey but recommend this place if you want to try the local beef and looking for a great experience.
