Wellingborough is a market town and borough in Northamptonshire, England, situated about 11 miles (18 km) from the county town of Northampton. The town is situated on the north side of the River Nene, most of the older town is sited on the flanks of the hills above the river's current flood plain. Due to frequent flooding by the River Nene, the town was mostly built above the current level of the flood plain. Originally named "Wendelingburgh", the settlement was established in the Saxon period and is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name of "Wendelburie". The town was granted a royal market charter in 1201, by King John of England.

I booked on a Wednesday for our wedding anniversary the next day. When we arrived the pub was shut, apparently for 'refurbishment'. I had been asked to leave our contact number when I booked but no phone call to let us know that they were leaving. Terrible service and a real let down.

Carvery and steakhouse
Fantastic carvery. Best roast Iâve had in a long time! The beef just melted in your mouth! Nicely refurbished restaurant and self-serve veg at carvery. Too full to have a sweet, but thatâs fine with me as I prefer my savoury main course. Arrived early and was seated straight away. Good service with helpful friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Thank you Miller staff !

First time visit with a friend and her dog. We'd booked for lunch in the bar area and were made most welcome on arrival. Service was great - speedy and helpful. Lots of lovely choices on the menu - we both chose the mushroom stroganoff which was delicious - hot and tasty. Somehow we both found room for pud - Malteaser sundae's - lush!!! Will definitely visit again.

Wonderful. Too many pubs are resorting to microwaves and âfast foodâ, preprocessed and pre-bagged meals. Not The Stagâs Head and it shows. Simple, good, hot, flavoursome food. Pub is a little dated but can be considered quaint or âcountryfiedâ and add to the charm. Going to try the Sunday Lunch next time. Recommended

Visit quite often as food is lovely and the waiting staff are always friendly and helpful. We eat out quite a lot and are always trying new restaurants.. and always end up coming back to the dog and duck! The shift manager whose name I think is Corey is one of the best there is and who is well liked by the customers but also the waiting staff too which I think is a good quality to have.theres just a very good atmosphere created by the staff which makes it a nice experience when visiting, as for the food itâs top quality and steaks are always cooked perfect!

This is what a proper pub looks like. A huge selection of real ales, friendly bar staff, fantastic comfy interior - and the pies, oh the pies! We ate our lunch here last Saturday, and have to say it was one of the best in ages. We had heard that the pies were brilliant, and they certainly didn't disappoint. I had the Chicken & Thyme, and my husband had the Steak & Ale, served with chips, peas and proper gravy, and a pint of real ale - all for £9.95, excellent value. We could have stayed here a long time, and will certainly return. The bar staff were really lovely and very friendly. Highly recommended.Thank you so Much for your kind words glad you enjoyed your visit

The Bell is a beautiful building, which revels in being The Oldest Licenced Pub in England, 1042. However this is not the original building, no matter, its good. The food is OK and reasonable value, not remarkable, but very acceptable.

We visited because we were given a £50 voucher for Christmas. The staff were friendly and welcoming but the premises were a bit dingy. The food was generally poor (stodgy gravy, tasteless mash, limited vegetarian options and very oily). Dessert portions were refreshingly sensible and one was tasty but the other was stodgy and not nice. Good wine!
