Things to do in Terrace
The Skeena Bar is a relatively new addition to the Terrace foodie and pub scene. First opened in December 2018, the bar initially served as a local watering hole and social house for the community; only light snacks were served to thirsty patrons. Actual meals and hot items came in early 2019, with brunch being added in June. How does this new establishment measure up to the completion?I like the external appearance of the place â its âheritage look with [a] modern twistâ helps it to really stand out while, at the same time, paying homage to Terraceâs general social and cultural history. The bright yellows and blues beckon and call to those passing by. Indeed, such calls are hard to ignore, so I trotted in to see what kind of treasures awaited me.Being a very new building, the interiors are bright and clean. The bar makes optimum use of its property by utilizing an âopen space concept:â Comfortable chairs and a couple of leather couches are tastefully arranged in the most appealing way so as to avoid the appearance of clutter and mess. The large front windows allow natural light to stream into the bar during the day and early evening hours. The décor, though, didnât really grab me: Moose head above the bar, motorcycle above the entranceway and old crosscut saw on the wall. These items made the bar feel much more like someoneâs personal man-cave rather than âyour neighborhood social house.âService throughout dinner was okay, but nothing special. It felt very distanced to me â probably because I was the only patron in the bar not ordering booze. In fact, I should point out that the server appeared to be VERY friendly to the fellows at the bar. After all, more drinks usually mean bigger tips! Anyway, after perusing the menu (which is completely different than the one posted online), I decided to try the âSkeena Mini Dogsâ and the âSkeena Steak Sandwich.âOn the whole, I felt the food here was pretty decent for pub fare. My steak sandwich was probably the star: It came cooked to order (medium), was flavourful and very tender. Iâd probably go so far as to say it was one of the better steak sandwiches Iâve eaten. The roasted red pepper complemented the natural flavours of the steak well. My mini hotdogs were good, too, but â far from being fun â were just a mess. Described on the menu as being served with âmaple mustard, roasted ketchup garlic aioli, spring onions, radishes, and pickled mustards on a hot dog bun,â it all sounds very good, BUT the menu doesnât say all of those ingredients are basically slathered over the poor hotdog buns, making them soggy and very messy. I think a little bit of restraint would work here because, besides the unappetizing mess, these little dogs were pretty nice.FOOD: 3.5/5SERVICE: 2.5/5VALUE: 3/5RECOMMENDATION: I think as far as pubs and bars go in Terrace, the Skeena Bar is definitely one of the better ones. Service seems a bit biased towards those ordering drinks, but the food is decent and the location ideal (right downtown). I probably wouldnât go out of my way to come here again, but if youâre staying at the Best Western or any of the other nearby lodging units, itâs a convenient option. Mild recommendation.PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the "helpful" button!

without a doubt the worst Prime Rib dinner ever. asked for medium, mine was medium my wife's was more than well done, and very bland. the gravy was very strong and almost over cooked, the Yorkshire pudding was tough as we have ever had it. the pre-cooked baked potato seemed old and wrinkly and to top it off the whole meal wasn't even hot. Such a disappointment .

I recently spent a week at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Terrace, British Columbia. The entire experience was a delight. Great Indian food in the restaurant!!! Clean and well-equipped rooms. An excellent breakfast buffet including a "made for you" omelet bar and regular changes to other breakfast fare offerings. A n extremely pleasant, positive, accommodating and welcoming staff. A fine experience!

Was a place to visit for lunch, never been before so wanted to tick the box. The pizzas are expensive and of average quality. A lot like Pizza Hut. Ingredients that are all packed in bulk and slapped on a pizza base. I wonât rush back.Hi, there. We price our menu items based on our commitment to high quality ingredients as well as an effort to remain competitive and deliver great value to our Guests. That being said, we always want to hear back from our Guests such as you! Very nice server, Mehreen, made our meal very pleasant and had good suggestions for both of us including the vegan boy. The cauliflower bites are amazing. I first tried the curry, cauliflower with chickpeas but there was hardly any cauliflower! Iâd come again!

The Thornhill Pub is one of the better pubs in the Terrace area. The atmosphere is warm and inviting; the setting and décor are unique (love the log cabin design with the large interior beams, which feature little bears âwalkingâ on them); and the staff are friendly, with an attitude that matches the relaxed environment within which they work. Seriously, I love these eateries styled after log cabins. Thereâs just something about them that brings me back to âyesteryear,â except these log cabins come equipped with modern amenities. Now, after a truly dreadful experience at another Terrace pub, I do admit to being somewhat hesitant to come here, but the unique look of the space won me over. And, Iâm glad I came because on top of a great atmosphere, Thornhill Pub also offers excellent cuisine. I ordered the halibut bites and the âGrizz Burgerâ (bacon, mushroom and cheese). The halibut bites were delicious. Itâs clear the chef in the back knows what he or she is doing because the halibut was cooked perfectly â juicy and tender as opposed to being dried out, which can happen very easily with a finicky fish like this. Best of all, you could tell that the âbitesâ were homemade and didnât just come out of some pre-made package. The Grizz burger was also nice. The beef patty was seasoned beautifully and there was the correct ratio of mushrooms and cheese to beef. My only complaint would be that they went a little heavy-handed on the mayo used in the burger â made it much messier than it probably shouldâve been. However, be that as it may, the food was still really good.Probably a big reason why the food at Thornhill is of such high quality is because the menu is pretty limited. Unlike that terrible pub Iâd gone to earlier, for example, Thornhill had just a handful of menu items as opposed to literally 100+. As a result, the chefs deliver on whatâs offered â making things fresh and in-house instead of frozen or pre-made. You can definitely taste the difference quality makes here.My one complaint? This pub is a bit out of the way, so you kind of have to want to come here in order to dine in or have a drink. Itâs not a pub that youâll just spot on the side of the road; itâs kind of hidden away. Because of that, this place seems much more like a âlocalsâ hang out and thatâs not a bad thing â the locals tend to know where the good places are.FOOD: 4/5SERVICE: 4.5/5VALUE: 4/5RECOMMENDATION: Good food, great atmosphere. Recommended!

No fancy frills, no stuffed shirt attitude. Just real people and great food. Everything you want in a steakhouse - only casual.
Pretty quiet. I ordered the panko tacos which unfortunately have been changed up to another filling. Good, but not as good as the mango shrimp they had before. Service a miss the entire night. I gave the server my app code on arrival and she lost it. I generated a new code but she couldn't get it too work. Server never did check on me for how my meal was. Time to cut my losses after 10 minutes of waiting on a bill. Thanks for joining us, I'm sorry we missed the mark for you this visit. We normally pride ourselves on our level of guest service and I will review your experience with our entire team. If you would like to share your contact info with us at [email protected], we'd welcome the opportunity to follow up with you further.

We have been here many times. Despite the cold (not cozy enough.. leather chairs maybe? Candles? ) feeling the place has, we have always enjoyed our food! However, tonight, we were so disappointed.I have a strict food diet and love that I can order the gf chicken and Brie sandwich. I omit the sauce it comes with and itâs perfect for me. Today, I learned it is no longer on their menu . The waitress said I wasnât the first to mention they missed it (so, maybe bring it back?!). Only other option was a salad with chicken. My boyfriend ordered his fave, the shrimp Pad Thai. This is where it got worse. Our food took exactly 50 minutes to arrive. 50. We timed it as a joke at first, but then it wasnât really funny..! Our neighbouring table ordered after us , received their meals, ate and paid... and we were still waiting. We were shocked and disappointed. We were so ready to get up and walk out. When our food finally arrived, my salad consisted of mixed greens, a few shavings of carrots, a few red peppers and a sad looking chopped up chicken breast. My partners meal was mainly sprouts, fewer noodles that he is used to getting here and very small shrimp (not the usual). We always enjoyed the food here. We bring clients, relatives and friends here when they visit. We often have slow service, but our food has NEVER taken this long and for both of us not to be happy with our meals is disappointing. FYI, the salad was $18.50.
