We came here due to the raving reviews. My fish pie was simply average. None- not a single one- of the desserts were homemade. I opted for the icecream with honeycomb. It was inferior icecream and was seriously not worth it. The service was ok. Nothing here to rave about. Just pub food.

We popped down for a few days break and booked here for three nights on the trot. We just love this place. Friendly service, comfortable surroundings, excellent wine list and amazing, innovative food, beautifully presented and very good value. All the food we had on the three days was stunning, the lamb and summer vegetables in red wine sauce with crispy pieces of rosemary batter was gorgeous, and the slow cooked pork belly with the spicy sausage, red wine sauce was stunning and so clever with the strips of raw sweet apple to add a crisp texture.I loved the gravad lax with the dill sauce and those amazing rye crisps, and tiny lightly pickled veg; a real tongue tingler. The smoked duck breast with beetroot and barberries and beetroot sauce with walnuts and orange was equally delicious. I am already looking forward to our next trip to Devon, and eating here again.

A modern, funky pub offering fantastic local ales, craft beer and a variety of spirits. Live music every weekend and a fabulous Sunday roast with Topsham's best yorkie! Children and dogs most welcome (with well behaved owners). We also benefit from a beer

My wife and I rang about an hour before and booked a table for an evening meal. When we arrived we were made to feel welcome on a reserved table.Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and more than adequate. I couldnât manage all my main course after having a starter. It was a lovely evening and we had coffee outside. I would recommend The Thirsty Farmer.

Booked so nearby relatives could join us for dinner. Beds very comfortable and bathroom was I think recently refurbished, great shower, sink a little small and would benefit from a towel ring at the side for hand towel. Toiletries provided along with cleansing pads etc which was a nice extra. Tea & coffee making facilities. Dinner which was good and reasonably priced with a good selection and a specials board. Breakfast was excellent with delicious sausages and thick cut bacon, couldn't fault it. Plenty of healthy alternatives to the traditional English breakfast. Please note if you book on-line you can receive £10 off your meal, I just missed the button to press so missed out! I'm unsure about disabled access to the rooms but certainly the restaurant would be fine.

We drove from Sherborne to spend an hour over a belated Birthday lunch for my sister, followed by a relaxing hour or two in Sidmouth. Finding the Golden Lion Inn on line decided to give it a try, we were not disappointed. Arriving around 1 o'clock, we found the car park fairly full and wondered if we should have booked, going inside we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff, we requested a table for 3, we could see how busy it was, luckily they had one table left but suitable for a party of 6, without hesitation we were seated, within a minute we had menu's glasses and a jug of water, eating utensils and serviettes, the waitress explaining they were busy but she would come back. There was a very good choice on the menu plus around 20 more choices on the " specials board " the waitress passed us with plates of wonderful looking food, seeing what the family on the next table had, and re thinking our choices, we chose the venison sausages and mash, liver and bacon, steak and ale pie, following our choice of potatoes and veg, the food arrived hot and together, followed up with rhubarb crumble /double cream, Creme brulee, and cheese board, coffee's and a brandy, £69 a fair price for an excellent lunch, we will return !
I was invited here by a friend and wasn't sure at first! It's like one of those little gems.. The pub has ideal parking to the rear and great outside space. Very clean and welcoming. The food however was amazing for the price! Personally I would have happily paid more as I was surprised at the quality and the amount. So happy I went for another visit with my mother. Will definitely be showing my face again. The staff and clientele are all so welcoming! What a truly wonderful place and highly recommend to anyone. Well done guys you have a fantastic establishment.

Over 200-year-old pub in the town square of Ottery St. Mary. a warm and cosy restaurant seating up to 30 people with an open fire in winter. Tables also available in the main bar and an enclosed courtyard to eat out in the summer. Offering homemade and co
Whilst the staff apologised for the noise, this did not help the fact that my meal, a ploughmans, was poor and bad value for money. Would I go again? No, sorry.Weâre sorry you feel like this, we always table check to make sure our valued patrons are happy and if there is anything else we can do to make their visit to our establishment more enjoyable.
