Great little pub with lots of small rooms. Very cost bar with very friendly regulars and nice staff. Limited food menu and not expensive. Not the most spotless of pubs and the gents toilets are in serious need of refurbishment but its the locals who make this a pub not to be missed. If you like a bit of well humored banter with your drink then give this place a try - youll be pleased you did.Pleased you had a great time in our cosy heritage pub. Hope you will return when you are in Malton.

On a recommendation, planned a Sunday lunch at this pub with my son half way between a 12 mile walk in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. We were not disappointed as it was our type of pub, oldie worldie with stone/brick floors and all the old photographs and such that make a true English Country Pub.A good menu and several types of craft beers all at good prices. We were crossing from the fields to the pub when a farmer warned us that we would need good appetites, and he wasn't wrong. The owner as well as the few locals made us feel welcome and coupled with this made an enjoyable lunch.I usually keep these gems to myself, but I understand that after being closed for several years, in 2016 the locals encouraged the re-opening and although quite busy, village pubs like this require and deserve outside customers as well as local trade. It has gone on my list as favourite pubs and we are already looking towards our next visit.A lovely post which describes not only the experience at the pub, but the friendly nature of the locals. Many thanks for taking the time to review the pub.

Just left this place. This is notionally the food capital of Yorkshire. The service is polite but very slow, ambience is fine and it’s in a pretty little square. However, their sausages are of that pink variety found in the cheapest sections of wholesale freezers, largely made of ground gristle, fat and breadcrumbs, truly disgusting. I asked how the eggs came and I was told “fried”, not fried or scrambled or fried, scrambled or poached, just fried. This is the food capital of Yorkshire and they only know one way to cook eggs. The sourdough bloomer tasted indistinguishable from plain white and had none of the taste or texture you expect from sourdough. They had run out of hot chocolate which the other half has because she doesn’t like coffee. Their coffee isn’t awful, but it’s a nothing special commercial blend that tastes mostly of robusta beans that have had too much water forced through them to save on frothed milk.I’ve had better breakfasts at a motorway service station.Hi, your review has left us all dumbfounded! Which of the cheapest wholesalers do you think we use for our “pink” sausages breakfast comes with either scrambled or fried eggs and we hadn’t run out of hot chocolate! Please stick on the motorway in future, many thanks jackie & her amazing team

Just one night in mid October. It's a great location between York and Scarborough. Essentially a very good local pub with very good food. Choice of cask ales and a good variety of all drinks and gins! A really nice beer garden.Simon (our host) was very kind and attentive to our needs. We had room 2 which was sympathetically decorated to the age of the building and felt very new and clean. Our seventeen yr old slept in a Z bed which easily fitted in the room and was very comfortable apparently. Breakfast was huge and like all the food locally sourced, fresh, tasty and satisfying. Good value too!

Our friends took us here for lunch because they came last week and loved it and we now love it too. We had the 3 course pensioners lunch at £8.00. I had soup the 4oz steak chips with garden peas and finished with the apple and cinnamon crumble with custard. The food was excellent, beautifully presented and good value. The restaurant is spotless with local pictures on the walls. The couple running the pub were friendly and very welcoming. Definitely recommend and cannot wait to come again. Hi Hazel,Glad you guys all enjoyed your visit and lunch. It was interesting speaking to you all about steam trains and areas where you’ve lived that we love visiting.Hopefully see you all again soon.Steve
