I booked the Steam Coach for a wake after my mother's funeral. We had about 35 guests and booked the back room with use of their spectacular back garden. The whole event was superbly organized by landlady Sylv. She offered a superb buffet menu at a very reasonable price, food was superb and the whole event went really wellThanks Sylv for your attention to detail and professionalism and for making the event such a successThe Steam Coach is a great venue and I can't recommend it highly enough

Went here for my mothers birthday what a dissapointment. Had previously been here a year ago for lunch anhd was nice. Had seafood starter...pretty sure they all came out of a can/freezer. The chilli was pretty average. I complained to our waitress, she didn't say sorry or even offer a partial refund. No one came over to see if we were ok with our food. Food came out slow. There were fly's buzzing around. Very dissapointed. Also limited menu for vegetarians!

With a history dating back to 1730, The Red Lion at Water End is situated in rural Hertfordshire. During its life as an old coaching inn, the building housed a Brewhouse, two cellars and six rooms, and occupied three acres of land complete with animals an
Staff need to pay more attention! I've watched 4/5 staff behind the bar ignoring me. I stood there for 5-7 minutes, not even an acknowledgement. One guy walks in off the street and was served immediately! Ridiculous. I was going to order a whole meal for two, and now refuse to do so.I've just watched another guy being completely ignored, again standing there for 5+ minutes without any acknowledgement. I noticed 2 females (I assume management) look around to me a few times whilst I was waiting at the bar not being served.First rule of any hospitality - acknowledge the customer!Customer is number one priority, not loading the fridges, or cleaning glasses.Utterly shambolic service, and frankly embarrassing. We've been here a few times, but won't be returning, or recommending.Hi n1k5I am very disappointed to hear of your experience you had visiting us recently. We would never want any of our guests to leave feeling this way. The team members you mentioned may have not realized you were waiting to be served hence why they didn't come over to you. This is no excuse for the service however I just wanted to offer an explanation as to why some of our team members may have seemed to not have acknowledged you.We will be picking this up with the team to see why this happened during your visit, to ensure this does not happen again moving forward.Kind regards,MollyThe Red Lion Team

Had high expectations in a very fine old building with plenty of character; unfortunately the food served did not live up to what was expected. One couple had a plate of barbecue ribs to share which looked a greasy mess to say the least. We had a seafood platter to share which was sparse in the extreme not actually sufficient to satisfy two persons. Both platters were sold as 'to share'. Service not exactly great and extremely noisy. Would not recommend or return for a second visit.Hello James H, thank-you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We apologise that the meals you had were not up to your expectations, I will be passing these comments on to our chefs to ensure that each meal is up to our standards. Kind Regards

Thought it was quiet they did not really have enough staff on and we waited quite a wile for our starters. when they came the portions where huge!My pork belly main was delicious.I appreciated them making me a virgin mohitoWe were not offered the 2 course menu which I only noticed when I went to the loo. we would probably have gone for that as we had to leave food as the portions were large. It was quite pricey for what it wasHello Valerie B! Thank you for taking the time to let us know how we did. We appreciate your honest feedback. We hope to see you again, have a great day!

I was stopping in a hotel a couple of doors down from here this week which unfortunately was not serving food so called in here for a bite to eat. Great friendly service from the chap behind the bar. Huge menu with plenty of different options. I went for the Beef Yorkie wrap which was spot on, very filling but very tasty. With a drink the price was around £10 which would be hard to beat. Plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the sun. A great find.Thank you so much for your positive comments about our pub, have a great day! Thanks again for taking the time to leave us this feedback about your recent visit. Take care!

My family and I enjoyed our first visit to The Plough and can fully recommend the quality of food and service given at this establishment. Although we hadn't booked a table, we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff. The only thing that spoiled our evening was the loud complaints made by a diner at a table next to us. It appeared that the quantity of food served to her wasn't sufficient and when the jovial waiter tried to joke with her, she took umbrage and very loudly complained that she was a vegetarian and was going to write a very bad review and stated that she was not going to pay for her meal. She complained to the poor waitress and manager and when the 'offending' waiter returned to the table to apologise for her being upset, she refused to accept his apology. Her poor companion looked so uncomfortable. He tried to make light of the situation but she wasn't having it. However, she did manage to eat her whole meal, and the only time she smiled was when she was given a sizeable discount on her meal. Before we left, we informed the lovely manager our version of the events as her damning indictment of the waiter from our perspective simply wasn't true and we will certainly be back to visit this lovely restaurant.

Returned here again to work our way through the other meats on the menu we hadnât managed! The service was great, really spot on, the waiter was there whenever you needed serving, but without being noticed! Sidd was knowable and polite and smiley; nothing was too much trouble to him.We order starters of fresh prawns and crunchy chicken strips, they were out quickly and the prawns were quality, fresh and tasty and cooked well.My hubster ordered a platter and got to choose 4 meat steaks they come out on a stone and you cook as you like.I had a veggie burger (madness in a steakhouse), but theyâre sooooo good. Decent amount of melted cheese, freshly cooke veggies for the burger pattie, and crunchy hot fresh onion wings. The chips, ohhhh my, tonight they were like roast potato texture and taste. I wasnât even hungry anymore and I was still just eating them as they tasted so flipping amazing!!All round excellent. Thank you to the team.Shall be back!!

This beautiful 18th century pub & restaurant serves freshly prepared food daily from Tuesday to Saturday plus a Sunday roast with several alternatives from 12 til 3pm Sunday's. Our steaks are cut from mature Hereford, American Rump or Aberdeen Angus beef
This popular local C18th village pub has a regular diary of popular themed events, so it is often worth checking what is on when booking a meal. The pub has a good range of pub grub on the menu, all at very reasonable prices. The beer is kept very well and the pub offers a range of really good bitters that cost £4/pint, as well as a very wide selection of gins! Being quite old, the building has numerous low beams, so tall people should take care. There is a good range of gluten free meals available, but vegetarians may find the menu a bit limited, unless they eat fish. The starters are £6-7 and are generally very plentiful - especially the baked camembert, which is to share! The warm duck salad is really good. Overall, the quantity of food as starters is very good and is almost as big as some other pub's main courses!Besides the main menu, there is also a selected range of specials on offer, also at a very good price. Most main courses cost up to about £15-16, but their steaks are £23-24, so there is big price gap here. Most main courses come with plentiful vegetables and accompaniments, but the streaks are only accompanied by one mushroom, one tomato and some watercress, although sides are available at an extra cost. Saying that, the steaks are about 8-10ozs and cooked to your choice. The liver can be recommended! Most main dishes can be ordered with (slightly!) reduced portions, as, with the exception of the steaks, the amount of food provided is plentiful and should satisfy most people's appetites! If you can face it, after wading through starters and a main course, there is a selection of traditional pub grub type desserts available, including a wide range of locally sourced ice-creams and sorbets; desserts cost £6-7 and are good value. The wine list is good and generally at very reasonable prices. One worth having is the sherry trifle, but whatever has happened to the traditional British desserts such as bread and butter pudding, spotted dick and other such delicacies!? Very few pubs do them any more!Children's menus are available and are about £6 eachUnlike some places, the restaurant area is adequately lit and the menu is printed in a sensibly sized font, so reading it was not a problem! The seating is well spaced, so tables are not on top of each other and there is good room to move between them - especially useful for people with limited mobility and/or wheelchairs. I was in a quite big party and we were on one of their larger tables; unfortunately it was a bit unstable, with the table top moving if you leant on one end - a bit like a Ouija board...! The chairs are not designed for comfort, but it is a pub after all - not a high class restaurant!Service was very attentive and quick, despite the restaurant being very busy and close to capacity.Overall, a really good and traditional local high Street pub that serves excellent food and very reasonable pricesThank you for writing us such a great review on your time here with us at The Bell, we pride ourselves on our food and service. We are so pleased your party enjoyed their meals. I will pass your comments on to all the staff and we hope to see you back at The Bell very soon, Kind RegardsNatilee
