We had dinner here the first of our two nights in Egton Bridge. We drove passed it on our way to our b&b and it looked nice so we stopped & checked out the menu (which looked great) . So we booked an early dinner. After the horrors of an unpleasantly busy Whitby the peace and quiet of the Wheatsheaf Inn was a blessing. The landlord was friendly and welcoming and the pub bar exuded history. Just how a country pub should be.I had the lamb shank which was amazingly succulent with a fantastic sauce (madeira?). Hubby had the steak pie. Again the meat was wonderfully tender. We had a huge quantity of fresh tasty vegetables, just the way we like it. Why is it so hard to get a decent choice of fresh veg in restaurants in the south! We had no room left for pudding which was a shame because the choice of 3 mini puddings sounded fabulous. We had a short walk around the lovely village after dinner to help walk off our massive, tasty dinner. There are fabulous views in all directions.

Charming, recently refurbished village pub on the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, just 3 miles from Whitby. Extremely dog friendly with 3 en-suite letting rooms. Great new menu using locally sourced ingredients cooked to order. Real open fire to cosy up in
Went and has a nice lunch in the rear beer garden and enjoyed it. It was friendly and welcoming with good service. So we booked in for dinner later that evening. It was dog friendly in the bar area. The menu was adequate and we had a nice meal. All the staff were pleasant.

Visited on a Sunday evening for a final meal out before returning home to Lincolnshire, with a deafblind wheelchair user. I enquired about the evening menu and if there was a ramp or side entrance available for wheelchairs. I was told by the scruffy looking chap behind the bar " no" not even an apology or a smile. The bar area looked very scruffy and dismal very much like the the staff member. As we were all hungry we opted for the takeaway fish&chips £8.95. Coming from a fishing town the price was more than we were used to but paid it. Once we opened the container we were amazed at the portion size as seen in the picture, also paid extra for mushy peas!!!!This pub is in a prime tourist location and takes full advantage of it! What a rip off!!

Our meat is supplied by John Ford's the local butcher in the next village or fish is fresh daily from Whitby. We serve pub classics using the finest ingredients we also have a daily specials board.
Booked last minute and got a table in dining room. Been frequently and it never disappoints. Best ever lamb shoulder, perfect vegetables and plenty of extra gravy. Good service. Have recommended to numerous family and friends. Long may it continue.

Many many years since I last visited and indeed stayed here. Inside is just as welcoming, and the food has certainly gone up a notch since last visit. Beautifully cooked and presented to a very high standard. Service is fine despite being advised that every dish is freshly made and only the dessert took a long time but was worth waiting for. There are no menus as everything is displayed on the blackboards around the old fireplace. Choosing, even for a non meat eater like me, was a challenge as all the dishes sound delicious and several choices of fish. Would recommend booking as even though we arrived early on a Thursday evening all the tables were reserved or taken. After a drink outside in the beer garden we were told we could have a table inside as the people who had reserved were late. Is dog friendly.

We were stopping locally and found the Witching Post rather by accident (nearest Pub) and so glad we did , we had two visits - Friday evening (steak night free bottle of wine) and then booked Sunday Lunch , We were really pleased with our meals especially generous steaks which were cooked to perfection , Luckily we had the foresight to book up for Sunday Lunch which was equally satisfying , we certainly return and would heartily recommend to all

We ate here every evening of our stay in Goathland as the food was so good, service excellent and at very reasonable prices.I can definitely recommend the lasagne, it is the best I have ever tasted, and the steak pie is also delicious. The deserts are to die for and as the portions are so generous, did not manage one every night. Once or twice we just had a starter and a desert and were well satisfied. The staff are all very pleasant and efficient and certainly aim to please. It is very popular with locals and non-residents so would recommend booking a table before your visit.

The smallest pub I've seen for years... just two bars with an old fashion sweet shop in the middle where time has stood still
This place has been a firm favourite of mine for many years, and my recent visit has done nothing to change my view. Going beyond quirky, I have to think it is utterly unique. Where else have you ever seen a traditional sweet shop inside a pub? Menu is limited to pies and sandwiches but this only adds to the unpretentious honesty of the place. If you haven't been, you are missing a timewarp treat!

We went into the coffee shop for afternoon tea to celebrate our friends birthday. We caught the train from Pickering to Grosmont walked to Goathland and then headed to this lovely coffee shop for afternoon tea. Friendly warm welcome from the young lady serving. We all chose tea and then we had the choice of a sandwich followed by Victoria sponge cake, a piece of lemon drizzle and a fruit scone with butter jam and cream. The food was gorgeous and we all enjoyed it. The price was on offer at £29.00 for 4 of us which was great value for good food. We booked the day before and the table was ready when we arrived. Definitely recommend we all want to go again.
