food is served daily Mon to Thurs 12.00-3pm 5.30-9pm all day fri/sat/sun Beautiful pub set opposite a lovely green and duck pond. We have a lovely outside seating area for alfresco dining on the front of the pub. Inside is immaculate with a separate dinin
Pretty village pub, the food is not bad, but service is consistently terrible. Very young, untrained waiting staff mix up, delay or forget orders more often than not.Latest example: ordered lunch for 5 year old son, wife and self. Sonâs lunch arrived, parentsâ did not. After half an hour son was done and raring to go. I went and enquired. âIt will only be a few minutesâ. âYou forgot, didnât you?â âYes...âAsked for a refund instead as we needed to get going. Parentsâ food arrived just as we were leaving. I explained that this had been forgotten and we had just been refunded. Waitress said we could still have the food, but only if we paid for it again (âitâs no problem, I can put it through the tillâ). I declined. Waitress visibly upset and complained to a colleague.Thank you for leaving your review with us, I'm very sorry to hear that we let you leave feeling unhappy. Id love it if you could email us so i can get in contact with you to discuss this in more detail and arrange to get you back, so you can see the level of service we pride ourselves on. our email is [email protected] look forward to hearing from you.Thank you again,Jack

Came here with my friend for lunch. We both had the ploughmanâs platter which was excellent value for money- very generous portions - all for £12.00. The food was fresh and delicious and there was an extensive menu. The staff were friendly , efficient and helpful. The pub is set in a beautiful location and the pub itself is gorgeous. We took the dog and was able to sit comfortably in the front garden with the other dog owners. Not sure if the pub wants to attract dog walkers but my only slight complaint- it would have been nice to have some bowls of water for the dogs but this was not really a problem. I do hope to go back to try one of the other dishes - everything I saw coming out looked delicious.Hi thanks for your lovely review. Really glad you enjoyed it! Sorry you didnât see any dog bowls, we do normally have a couple scattered around but they may have been taken to the back garden! Donât be afraid to ask, we will always go and look for one for you!! Hope to see you again!

We had not been to the bull for a couple of years so made the trip put last weekend. Delighted that we did - the meal was absolutely fantastic. We had Calamari to start, followed by a couple of different pies and a bottle of wine. All of it was first rate. I'm not a huge fan of traditional British food but when it's done as well as this it can be delicious. I will be visiting again very soon.Thankyou for your lovely review! My chef now makes all the pies and specials ,making our menu a lot more interesting! Our calamari is prepared freshly and so is very light !Look forward to seeing you again !

Thought we would visit this pub as it was showing the football on tv and two of my friends live close by so we met there. My 18 year old son phoned and asked where i was and then decided to drive to meet us there too , and we sat out the back on our own to watch the game. The landlady ( did not think she was the landlady at first as she is not customer friendly at all ) came out to collect some glasses and rightly so , asked my son for some I.D, which he did not have on him . I did not see this as a problem as he did not want an alcoholic drink , just to sit with us with a coke and watch the game , and when i said this she stated that the law requires him to be over 18 with I.D after 8.30pm . I questioned this as i do not believe this is the case, and the fact that he had literally just driven himself all the way from woodford to meet us, and the way she answered me was unbelievable. I was really shocked the way she retaliated and then told him to go home and get his I.D or she would throw him out. He was obviously not going to do that having just come home from work, and so left and went home. I have since checked up on the 'Law' and it is not the case , so well done Landlady for losing 4 potential customers , as we will never go back there again and in this day and age of pubs closing at a rate of knots , i can not understand this kind of customer service. This is not a moan or a rant to get back at her terrible attitude , as she is completely the wrong type of character to take criticism on board , as one of her replies was "whatever" , but merely a warning to other possible first time customers what to expect, and i would avoid at all costs, as i and my friends will be doing in the future Well done.Hi Iâm sorry to here about your experience at The Black Lion Your correct it is not against Licencing laws that a child can be on Licencing premises acompined by an adult But we have a house rule to comply with the 2008 Licencing law objectives that we owe a duty of care to children so to show due diligence children under the age of 18 are not permitted on the premises after 8.30pm and as we operate a challenge 25 policy (signage is clearly displayed in all bars) This requires us if your son did not look 25 he has to prove with photo ID that he is 18 or over as he couldnât we have to assume his under 18 years of age The person you dealt with on the night was my manager and I have spoken with her in regards to this incident If you would like to discuss this further please contact me on 07506506939 Many thanks Laura Willis Owner

Vintage setting in authentic WWII Nissen Hut & NAAFI, selection of freshly cooked food, local baked bread daily, organic free range Sausages and eggs, full bar service available daily, function facilities.
Lovely friendly atmosphere with seating inside and out on a busy airfield next to one of the main taxiways and aircraft parking. Perfect on a nice summer's day to sit outside and what aircraft coming and going. The buildings have lots of character, clearly some going back to WWII when North Weald was a fighter station during the Battle of Britain. The buildings and tables and chairs are now looking a bit tired, particularly the outside seating. The food is good and tasty though nothing special.Overall a lovely welcoming place to come to relax with a nice meal.Morning Debbie Rwe have bought new tables for the summer, thank you for your feedback, our menu is targetted at the repeat customer expectation and we have tried many times to alter the menus/ specials boards but I can assure you is fresh cooked, organice and locally sourced, homecooked etcwe look forward to welcoming you back soonkind regardsBilly

A traditional free house serving home cooked food and real ale. The Forest Gate Inn has a homely atmosphere with a large beer garden to enjoy in the summer and a cosy wood burner to sit by in the winter. A full menu is available with weekly specials and t
We were visiting local family, so came for a bite of lunch. I had the mixed meze platter, and my uncle the meat platter. Both were ok but I felt not great value for money. We sat outside, where the picnic benches were in dire need of replacing or at least a good clean/revarnish. It was busy so I guess we were just unlucky with our choices on this occasion. Thank you for your comments. We regularly review our menu and all dips and pate's on the mixed meze are homemade excluding the meat platter. All other items are freshly home cooked such as our pie's and lasagne etc. With regard to the outside benches these are cleaned daily and varnished regularly. We hope to see you again soon to try out something else.

The sausage and mash plus vegetables and onion gravy were ok. My smoked mackerel salad was fine but they didn't have any olive oil for a dressing. If I had known that they didn't have a dressing I would have selected something else.Rather disappointed, but perhaps I should have checked first?

Stopped for a coffee and this was served in good time and with hot milk for my Americano. The flavour was full and overall I was pleased. On the downside, the table had a severe wobble and the top surface was very sticky.Hope things improve for our next visit.Hi Paul R,Thank you for sharing your reviewing with us.I would l like to apologise for your table not being clean, sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.I hope to see you again soon and you have a better experience with us.Kind regards, Sammi
