Having been here, and having enjoyed meals previously, this visit proved to be extremely disappointing.First however, I feel it necessary to exclude the waiting staff. Each person who attended us was welcoming, attentive, friendly and helpful. Big thumbs up! The menu system and the food quality however, was disappointing in the extreme. Not enough to present a traditional menu, this was then augmented by not one, but THREE blackboards which were deposited on the table. The resultant effect was something which President Trump would have been proud of as he cast this gaze South. Feeling a little overwhelmed with such a choice, we were then astonished to find that the three elements of the wall were double sided! The resulting food, from such a wide selection was unsurprising...but nevertheless, still disappointing. Supermarket sides and frozen fillings provided a predictable and sorrowful lunch.

My friend and I stayed here for one night when we were walking the Annandale Way. Itâs such a friendly, welcoming hotel. My room was large, spotlessly clean, well equipped, and the bed was really comfortable. My friendâs was smaller and looked out on the car wash but it didnât bother her as it wasnât in use much. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. We wouldnât hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it. We had a lovely stay.

Had originally booked this hotel for 2 nights but after sleep deprivation only stayed the one sleepless night. Please avoid room 4 which kept me awake with the continual humming sound of what I thought was the central heating or kitchen extractor fan.The next morning at breakfast, looking particularly bleary eyed I sat down for breakfast and was joined by another couple on the next table. After exchanging pleasantries Richard enquired how I had slept because he had previously had room 4 and didn't get a wink of sleep all night...same problem.I then spoke to the duty manager and asked if there was an issue with noise whereupon she admitted the late turn receptionist had forgotten to turn off the ice making machine, hence the noise.I enquired if there had been previous issues which she categorically denied but then had to eat humble pie when I mentioned Richard's story. A blatant liar.In conclusion I decided not to stay, received an apology but had to pay the full price ....disgrace.

Just south of Wigtown, near Newton Stewart, Scotland, very popular with the locals, deservedly.
We called in for a drink after visiting the Bladnoch Ddistillery across the road. The pub was very busy, which to me says it must be good. The young guy behind the bar had excellent local knowledge and was very polite when explaining local attractions. We really enjoyed our drinks/chat and we will definitely visit again.

Fantastic location right by the Solway Coast. Plenty of seats for indoor and outdoor dining. Cosy fires in the winter and very child and dog friendly. Locally sourced produce freshly cooked to order. Gem of a place.
We went to the Steamboat Inn last night for dinner - what a great decision! The menu is extensive and split into seafood and non-seafood sections. There is something for every taste and prices are very reasonable. The wine selection is good and again very well priced. Our food was beautifully cooked and presented.Service was excellent- fast, attentive and very friendly. The restaurant itself was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and the heat and aroma from the open log fire was great! This is clearly a very well run establishment where the owners take pride in providing a first class dining experience.Based on our visit, we have no hesitation in recommending the Steamboat Inn and we will very be returning soon.Well done and thank you.
Where to eat British food in Dumfries: The Best Restaurants and Bars

We have eaten here several times on visits to my wifeâs sisterâs.I'm sure I have written a review before but can't seem to see it. So:The Cavens is a great place to eat and have a drink in a Trad Style Pub, it has a sound reputation, this is underlined by the fact they don't have to take bookings on small parties. - The staff are great a nice balance on Silver and New. They all work for each other, great team â all are very attentative, we were a party on 12 so we could book.I love this place and would eat British here all the time if is was my choice only.
