Its history goes back to the building of a Roman fort called Concangis. This Roman fort is the "Chester" (from the Latin castra) of the town's name; the "Street" refers to the paved Roman road that ran north–south through the town, and which is now called Front Street (shown at right).

Staying in a nearby hotel visiting relatives we decided to have our evening meal in Champs, big mistake, there was no draught beer available so we ordered alternative drinks while perusing the menu. There was absolutely nothing for the vegan member of our party. Do they not realise that we are now in the 21st century? No excuse, every establishment should have vegan options on the menu.Hi Stewart237.As you were informed at the time of your visit, we had a problem with our cellar gas which meant we had no draught beer, this problem was totally out of our hands and was rectified as quickly as possible.We did reply to your email regarding vegan options, and did let you know that we had very little choice for this dietary requirement. However we take your comments on board and will be adding in Vegan options onto our next menu.We hope to see you again soon.Regards

We recently visited The Smiths Arms as a family. One of our group is currently following Slimming World (not me obviously ) and the chef made her a special pizza in order to ensure we could all eat. It was delicious! Fantastic service.

Visited here today with daughter and grandson we both had hot beef sandwich and chips which was delicious lovely home made chips grandson had sausage and mash which he ate and some of my chips the staff were very helpful and friendly lovely warm welcome will be back Thank you for your lovely review, we are really pleased you all enjoyed your meals and thank you for the kind comments on the food and the service, this is very much appreciated. Me and my husband went for an evening meal. The place itself is nice, with a friendly atmosphere. The staff were very friendly as well. The meal itself was ok. The butterfly chicken was really small , and would have liked salad and coleslaw with it. The chips I had were ok. I think for price i paid, there could have been a lot more to it . Bit disappointed unfortunately. Not sure if we will go back

Come here with family twice a week and on average spend £45 which over 46 weeks add upto over 4k spent in here Today what's the old school pudding? 1 jam pudding left then it goes to syrup sponge ! I will have a syrup sponge. I will have to ask chef answer NO it's the rule not until the jam sponge gone !!!!how annoying and what happened to customer choice ahahahahahahHi Im David Burnside the owner of The Chester Moor, after reading your review i was very disappointed in how the staff have dealt with your request. We should have used a bit more customer service as your request was very straight forward. Visited the upstairs restaurant on a busy Saturday evening and found a lively and busy / bar restaurant with a great vibe The staff were all excellent and friendly as well as being very efficient and the menu was very varied The actual food was high quality and nicely presented All in all , a great experience Thank you for taking the time to write your lovely review! Had a very tasty lunch and great value at £9 for a main and sweet. Proper chips and fab gravy. There are a couple a craft ales and friendly staff, even if we had to wait a while for our desserts.

This was my first visit to the newly refurbished Charlie's Steak House in the rear of Lampton Worm The first impressions are definitely very positive; the restaurant area has definitely benefited from the redecorating , but I am left with the distinct impression that this is all about simply trying to make more money for the owner , rather than provide greater value for money for the customerThe steak theme is very obvious ( even in the decor ) , and whilst the steaks themselves are pretty good quality, the prices have gone up and the whole " Himalayan Salt " thing just feels like a ruse to charge a significant premium The menu has lost some old favourites; for example the mixed grill has bizarrely disappeared in a steak house, and the beautiful cod dish has been disappointingly replaced with sea bassI had the chicken Caesar salad starter , and it was the worst value for money Caesar salad that I have ever had for £6+ : very little chicken and loads of croutons - never again The wine list has changed as well - but again, it feels like they have just taken the opportunity to up the prices rather than provide good value for money They should make the bar food menu openly available in the restaurant - and I am sure that customers would accept an uplift of a few pounds per unit to eat in the nicer surroundings As all the food comes from the same kitchen - so I am not sure why they restrict the choice Nevertheless, Charlie's is an improvement but , for us, I suspect we will eat in the bar more often than before - which I don't think was the aim of the exercise!!
