This pub looks lovely from the outside and the staff are really friendly. A group of us visited recently and we all agreed that the food was fairly average and not as good as the other pubs we'd visited in this area. The staff made a lot of mistakes with our order and we ended up not all eating at the same time which was quite uncomfortable. The decor inside was charming and rustic but I agree with a previous client that the loos need attention. Maybe they just had an off day but all in all given how many excellent eateries there are in this area we won't be visiting again.Thank you for writing your TWO reviews, although I would have been perfectly happy with the one. However It's quite impressive that you seem to have each others feedback pretty much word for word. It's fairly obvious that a copy and paste situation occurred with just enough little changes to the odd phrase so that TripAdvisor didn't pick up on it. Very ingenious.I'm sorry to hear that our team made a few mistakes that day. I don't know what went wrong, we have recently been doing some training, but in your own words, "Maybe you got them on an off day".I was aware that the loos did take rather a heavy weekend during that bank holiday, and I'm not really sure what had gone wrong with the cleaning rota, but I can assure you that it will most certainly not happen again. I will be watching much more closely.I can't rally pass comment on anything else as there's not much to work on. I am sorry that you have decided not to return, but am happy that you are happy with other pubs in the area as two of them are also mine.Thank you for your review ('s).Rick

Located in the picturesque village of Tideswell in the heart of the Peak District, The Merchantâs Yard offers fresh, locally sourced cuisine and carefully crafted drinks in an atmospheric and friendly environment, where top class service is a priority. Wh
Just arrived in the village so needed an early dinner. This place had a deal on, 2 & 3 courses if ordered before 18.30, plus cocktails were 2 for £10 before 18.30. £19.95 for three courses and plenty of choice for each course, I found it difficult to pick as all dishes on the menu looked so nice. All three courses were enjoyed by us all. The cheese board was . Would recommend and will definitely be back.

Four of us spent 2 nights here as the base for walking in the area. It was good value, friendly and the food was appropriate to the purpose of the venue - to provide hearty food for walkers. Itâs not luxurious- but not intended to be - but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was sourced from local products and was well worth it. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. Itâs very close to station and to the start of some of the best walks. Strongly recommended.

A very traditional pub filled with locals enjoying the ale. As visitors were made to feel welcome. Local beer was great. Food - although plentiful- was unfortunately not so. Daughter was put off from her burger after finding gristle and my halloumi burger was drowned in bbq sauce. It was passable but would have rather gone to wetherspoons and paid less.

Stopped off here a couple of times while out walking from Castleton. Friendly young chap behind the bar both times. Good selection of real ale on the bar. Shared a baked Camembert infused with rosemary and garlic, which came with plenty of bread, and it was divine!!!Hello.Thank you so much for such a great review. I really couldn't be happier to hear that you enjoyed our Camembert, and very impressed with your knowledge. Most people wouldn't have noticed the rosemary and garlic. You are most welcome to join us again at your earliest convenience. Thank you again. I hope to see you again soon.Rick

Stopped here for something to eat, en route to Edale. They had a nifty "mini lunch" menu where you got two or three courses for £11 or £13 respectively .. portions come large in the Peak District so that suited me just fine and two courses was more than enough .. excellent food too. The pub is characterful and I recommend it

Super friendly pub, awesome staff and a really wonderful atmosphere. The inside of the pub is both cosy and spacious, and outside area looked super cute with the fairy lights too. What really made this place memorable though was the staff - helpful, chatty, full of charm and personality, and particularly skilled in moth catching! Everyone was incredible with our dogs too, depsite one being a little unsettled and yappy at times.Wish we'd chosen to eat here too as the menu looked great and so did the food coming out of the kitchen. (We'd already eaten).Would highly recommend this gem.Hello.What a headline. Thank you so much.I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to our little pub, and hope you can call in again some day. Thanks again.Rick (chief moth catcher)

We were starving after walking up to Mam Tor and the sandwiches here didn't disappoint. I had the tuna melt (delicious) and my partner had the beef (2 huge slices, very tender) and horseradish. They were served with lots of fries and a decent salad. Very friendly staff too.

The best pints of real ale in Castleton! Great selection of ale and very well kept! Good gin selection too. The food menu had lots of choice and they have a sausage and mash pick ânâ mix too - choose your type of sausages eg pork and apple, vegetarian etc, then your mash eg cheesy, mustard etc then your gravy or sauce eg onion, peppercorn etc. you can also have it in a large Yorkshire pud! And we got homemade onion rings. The other half had steak and said it was beautiful and cooked perfectly! Really good food and even better ale! Visited several times during our stay.
