Visited on the first week of July 19 for a late lunch. Sun was blazing down and everyone was sat outside basking in the rays. It seemed like the place was frequented by the 'locals' of Blandford which always bodes well. Good choice on menu and well stocked bar (Hall and Woodhouse/Badger).Service was a tad slow, but then the place was ramped and it was a midweek lunch with great weather, so perhaps they may have been caught out with demand vs staffing level. Didn't matter as it made for a very continental experience of a long relaxed lunch which us Brits should all embrace.Good quality food was served with the lovely triple cooked chips to wolf down too.I would certainly recommend as a lunch venue.Thank you for taking the time to write a reviewThe Great British Summer is so unpredictable that we wish we had a crystal ball some days! We've lunched here on several occasions . Sunday lunch is always FANTASTIC & great value .Always a chouce of succulent tender Roast Pork , Beef or Turkey .Really generous portions and cones with all yhe trimmings .Pimpernes hidden treasure . Lesley & Neville are lovely hosts and always make us feel very welcome .Lovely friendly "local" with excellent food and service

We had dinner at the Saxon Inn restaurant twice whilst staying at the inn. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service good, accompanied by humour which we appreciated. Andy is a very good chef. My wife particularly appreciated his vegan curry with non-greasy poppadoms and also that he went out of his way to adapt a dish for her with a non-dairy sauce. I enjoyed both my Beef Bourguignon and the Scampi

Found myself working locally to this place so popped in for lunch. Limited menu for my taste, but plenty to choose from, so I opted for the burger. Came out very quickly. Nicely cooked and a good sized portion. Good chips. Service was good. Prices very reasonable.

I ate here with a group of friends and as a large group we preordered our food. I cannot eat milk or egg due to allergies, so when my friend visited to confirm arrangements she went through the menu with the landlord to confirm what I could eat. I selected from the meals offered and when sending the menu back she noted the allergies against my order to be sure the kitchen had the information - I also ordered a meal I was told was vegan. I asked again as my food was handed to me and was told it was fine. As I took my first bite the waitress came out and told me no it wasnât safe, it had milk in. She offered a brief apology and took my meal to change it. Not once did anyone ask if I was ok or needed anything, I was ok, I can tolerate one bite but others might not be so lucky. With three checks you think theyâd have got it right! I didnât kick up a fuss, nor should I have to, as my friend had put so much effort in I didnât want to make her feel bad. I emailed them the next day to ask how theyâd ensure it didnât happen again as mistakes like this can kill, 8 days later and no response. To top it off we were chased into the car park when we left saying we hadnât all paid - we had! Mistakes happen but it was a bit embarrassing the way they handled it.

Went here with another couple on Thursday evening to celebrate our anniversaries, we have lived in the area for over 20 years and never got around to coming here - what a mistake! What an excellent evening, the staff very friendly, good selection of beers and outstanding meals. We had a couple of the sharing boards to start both had a good selection of meats and accomplishments, both men had the Steamed Steak and Ale Pudding (could not fault this) and the ladies opted for the Honey and Mint Lamb which they both praised. We will definitely be making up for the lost years of not visiting this great local inn in the past.

After reading the reviews we booked to bring family who were on holiday to Royal Oak, have no issue with 2 sitting restaurants however donât expect to have to wait for over an hour for food and then get given desert menus before finished main course. Food was over cooked with Macaroni Cheese dry and hard and garlic bread resembled a biscuit. Roast plentiful and turkey lovely however beef very tough. Complained about fish and chips and got it refunded. Really disappointing as was expecting a lovely meal unfortunately can not reccomend

We hired out the accommodation the pub has to rent. Simply put...it is the best little cottage we have stayed at with our dogs. Immaculate finish, more than enough room and so clean. A real gem that we are already planning to book again. Desi was lovely and really couldn't do enough for us. So helpful. The pub is literally 5m from the front door. They do a nice range of beer and drinks. The food was splendid.Location, really centrally placed to get to poole or Weymouth or further afield should you wish. It took us around 35-40 minutes to get to West Lulworth. Thank you both for making our trip that much better.
