Mario Simms has been the gracious proprietor and host of the Blue Chip Club (a.k.a "Mario's") for well over four decades. Located in a homey building at the south end of Simms, Mario serves up a variety of delectable local dishes including fried fish and chicken and cracked conch and all of the sides that you'd expect in a hearty Bahamian meal -- peas and rice, excellent potato salad, and a yummy coleslaw. My absolute favourite dish, though, is his amazing stewed mutton, which is the best that I've had in the Bahamas. His prices are more than reasonable and his hospitality is top-notch. A must for visitors to Northern Long Island.

As the name suggests this is half way along a very long island and a good stop for a passing drink or lunch or dinner though the karaoke nights are memorable too- Chris and Tom - remember 'The Weight'.Last time we stopped by for Kalik's and rum punches Crystal was behind the bar - so efficient and friendly. We started talking about the island's fascination with the strange Guiness/Buckfast combo they drink. We told Crystal all about Buckfast Abbey in England where it is made by Monks - and she proceeded to make us a few.Looked like other people were enjoying their lunches too.

We stopped in for a cold Kalik after spending some time at Gordon’s Beach and were glad we did. Pit Bull (Ernest), told great stories about Long Island, his life, and especially surviving the hurricanes. He’s a fun, cool guy. As we were getting ready to settle up he bragged that he makes the best conch salad on the island, so we stayed for another round. His special ingredients are apple and a local hot, red pepper. It was delicious!

We always make this a stop for sweets. The rum cake is so moist and tasty. We also love the different breads that are available for purchase.

I have had conch salad all over the Caribbean and by far this is the best I have ever had by a long shot. It takes time to make so have a beer and relax. You cannot get any fresher nor any better. Words do not describe how good it is.

Outer Edge

Clarence Town is the island capitol so you will probably visit the Outer Edge or Rowdy Boyz or both.Great setting on a deck overlooking the harbour where you can see ridiculously ostentatious boats, charter skippers cast netting for bait and also lean over and spot lots of fish - including the biggest needle fish I have ever seen. Friendly service and comfortable tables - we had the shrimp and the fish tacos which I must say were delicious and made a change from conch,.burgers or grouper fingers.

We had the grouper fingers and cracked chicken along with plantains. This might have been what we were looking for the whole week we spent on the island, unfortunately it was on our last day. We are heading back this Summer and will make a trip there early, and maybe often.

We booked a 3pm table for 6. Pierre warmly greeted us on arrival and ran through the menu and drinks procedure. Two hours later fully sated variously on delicious appetisers, lobster, shrimp, pizza accompanied by wonderful fresh locally sourced salads and an extensive choice of drinks we repared to the 3 mile beach for a dip in the clear blue water. Finally departing after sunset we settled the bill which by Bahamas standards came as a very pleasant surprise. If there is a better quality and value restaurant in the Bahamas let me know as I need to go there too. Thank you Pierre for memorable meal.

Max's Conch Bar & Grill

There really is only one street in Deadman's Cay of Long Island Bahamas, they don't technically have a street address.

We had a light lunch of conch salad and conch fritters at Max's. They were doing predictably good business even on a weekday lunchtime in May. The food was great though and the insects didn't trouble us too much. The menu came on a whiteboard without prices, but we shouldn't have worried. It was the best value we had in the Bahamas, and amongst the best food too!
