Things to do in King Island
This is one eclectic little number. It is really out there. The kind owners keep this place maintained and open to the public. Walking into the boat house you pass a operational bbq which you are most welcome to use. Upon entry you are greeted with music of yesteryear. Sometimes classical. Around the walls are art work you can purchase. There are several tables set with old crockery and cutlery. It is a welcoming but bizarre experience walking into a room that feels abandoned. So you can use the premises like a restaurant with the only expectation that you byo and wash up after yourself. Donations are appreciated. Some golf tours have catered meals there which is great to see the place being used. Go and have the experience at the restaurant with no food. What I like is the place is well respected with no supervision.

We dined here twice during our visit. On both occasions the staff and service was great. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Service was a bit slow on our first visit but as they also service the take away area for the island it was busy in the kitchen. Food was good (not fantastic) - my meal was rather average and finding a gluten free option was difficult. My mother's parma was huge and we were able to take a doggy bag. My dad had a pizza and said it was great, although the edge crust was a bit crisp for him. We also had a bowl of chips - they were amazing. Our 2nd visit it was very busy but surprisingly our meal came out quite quickly, again I struggled finding a gluten free option but all the other meals were great. Dad loved his onion rings.

Went here for breakfast, mostly tea / coffee / cakes on the menu so we tried them all! Favourite was the orange cake with fresh cream. Beautiful art works. Got a cute little penguin woodblock print. Gallery owned by mum of Australian artist Jason Roberts, so expect some fine works.

Decent brekkie and coffee, and good sit-down lunches. Quite busy so the locals obviously like it too. Plenty of indoor and covered outdoor seating.

4 of us were lucky enough to have a wonderful evening last week at the "Boomer". After a recommendation we pre booked a table and an order of crayfish. When we arrived both Michael and Tiffany were wonderful hosts with lots of good King Island stories. Our food was absolutely delicious and the view with the setting sun was breath taking . The crayfish was outstanding served natural and a couple of us had the most magnificent steak cooked to perfection. My husband and I are great steak lovers and we both said it was one of the best steaks we had ever had. Thank you Cheryl and the staff in the kitchen. Overall a wonderful evening.

This local golf course is a nice 9-hole layout with alternative tee and pin positions. It is quite well laid out and the greens are in great condition. This is a good warm up course for Wickham and the Dunes as it allows you to get used to the wind and different greens.Come back to the club house for a beer or two and it has also a good wine list. We had a simple lunch followed by King Island cheese platters and the guys behind the bar are great.

Dinner is available Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm to close.
We were told about Oleada but when we tried to book it was closed. We then were offered an early booking the next night. We agreed and were thrilled by our experience. Delicious food, fantastic service in a lovely little space. So pleased we dined there. Reasonable price too!

Your host is so welcoming and her home made food is simply scrumptious. good coffee and a nice range of cakes and dessert items. For those who need the option of gluten free, you have come to the right place. So many choices and catering to everyone is really a surprise on this wonderful remote Island. The rural setting is gorgeous and contented cows munch away in the pastures that completely surround this place. In fact a drive through this area is good for the soul... green everywhere and so vital a change for city folk.

In a lovely rural setting with well maintained and very pretty gardens this Cafe is just off the main Currie Grassy road. To drive on this awesome island and experience all the wonderful rural views with contented cows and stunning scenery is one thing! When you need a coffee and some sustenance this cafe is the answer! The service and food and the coffee are so good. Well worth many visits!

Once you step inside this place has a very different feel to it. Our young waitress was so friendly and warm, food beautiful but we couldn't bring ourselves to eat the signature dish which was wallaby as they were nibbling on the grass outside our window, silly I know but we stick with the steak and fish of the day. Great wine selection. Would dine here again.
