Very special indeed. When visiting a venue of this style there is always a nervous element. It can be a lot of pressure ordering the right meal, wine, what if’s and buts. All of our food and wine was spot on. Service was so good in a way that although polished and of the highest standard we never ever felt “over serviced”. Food was so good that even we would all taste something in a dish that was truly fantastic and ask “what’s that”? A wonderful evening thanks to the Lakehouse crew

Such a cute little cafe. We tried to book, but the cafe only takes booking for 6 or more. It’s not a huge place. We got there at 8.45 for brunch & it was already very busy. We ended up taking a table outside, even though it was cold. The waitress could see were were all pretty cold & offered us blankets to keep warm. After we ordered & started drinking our coffees, the same waitress came & offered us a share table upstairs. We were happy to share with another couple, we hoped they didn’t mind sharing with a group of 5 women. The food took a little while, maybe 30 minutes, but when it arrived it was gorgeous. Very tasty & good value for money. When we left, people were lining up to get in. My tip, go early, before 9.00am if you want a table straight away, especially on a weekend. It was a pleasure to have you and your group thanks Vicki. See you next time you're in town.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon with my friends seeking some simple lunch fare. Great setting in this charismatic, restored period building and the ambiance inside is inviting, relaxed and quaint. Interesting selection of meal choices on offer. It was all hands on deck with the staff fully stretched as business was more than brisk and demanding when we were there. Patrons need to understand that this is a charming and genuine country business in a superb location and not bring their unrealistic expectations of a fine dining destination! Instead, pop in with a relaxed attitude and chill out and "savour the soothing vibe" that it offers whilst you are waiting to be served. Your reward will be fresh, superb and exceptional tasty food that will certainly bring you back for more. Being a regular consumer of a variety burgers at locations all around Victoria, the burgers here are quite simply the best I have ever had. We all ordered the same beef burgers and as a group waxed lyrical as to having found the pinnacle of burger heaven. The general store also offers an interesting array of produce and goods to purchase and create your own meals, I would recommend that you definitely call in when travelling in this region. Even if it is to only sit outside at the front having a coffee and watch the world go by is a charming experience and a recommended excuse to escape the rat race of frenetic city living! Support this country gem with your business as they deserve accolades for all its aspects of what is somewhere I will return to much sooner than later.

Whilst we enjoyed the farm and the short tour of the original farm house I do not believe paying the entrance fee is worth it especially if you are going to the café and or purchase something in the store. I think the best option is to deduct the entrance fee from the purchases whether it be in the café or the store. You could even put a minimum spend to obtain the refund. The food in the cafe was lovely the pizza had one of the best crusts I have had for a pizza. The champagne with lavender was also very nice. The tour of the original farm house was very interesting and very informative. The current owner purchased the property 30 years ago and lived in the old farm house whilst it was renovated and it is now a business.I would be interested in going back to see the lavender in flower. Thanks for your review. Our entry fee is payable once a visitor decides to enter the farm. Visitors are not required to pay a fee if they only shop in our gift shop, which is the first entry point to the property. In basic terms, the entry fee covers the expense of maintaining our gardens, grounds and infrastructure. As a rural property we do not have access to town water, sewerage and other basic amenities. We are an historic farm with extensive grounds, gardens and historic buildings for visitors to enjoy. Our cafe, La Trattoria, is provided as an extra service for those wanting a great environment with their great food. The best time to enjoy our lavender in full bloom is throughout January and February. We also host a Lavender Harvest festival every year where we can share the whole lavender harvesting and processing experience with interested visitors. See you then!

I am so thankful we chose the Argus as our one special meal while in the Daylesford area. The location and atmosphere of the restaurant is excellent - it was very easy to book the taxi there and back from our Daylesford BnB.The menu was fantastic - everything looked divine - but we chose to allow the Chef to choose for us. It was AMAZING!!! He sent out 6 entrees, 4 mains and 3 desserts for our small group of 4 to try and seriously, every single dish was to die for. It was the most stunning food. Quality ingredients. Perfectly matched wine. We had a very memorable night. The service and staff were also fabulous. We travelled from overseas to meet up with friends and we will be recommending to meet up always in this beautiful part of Australia and will return to the Argus again.Hi macandmui,Thank you so much for your glowing review and 5 star rating. We are thrilled that our genuine service, along with our comfortable and convenient facilities has made you a true fan of the Argus. Thank you for making mention of the many aspects which made your stay so enjoyable. I am sure other readers, looking to have an enjoyable experience like yours, will find your review extremely helpful. It will be a great pleasure to welcome you back for another enjoyable stay, in the not too distant future.Best Regards,

We went there for sunday brekky. I wouldn’t rush there. The coffee was ok but nothing exciting. The scrambled eggs were overcooked and rubbery. The hashbrown was a big square of mash potato. Slightly undercooked. They ran out of sausages which is surprising as it wasn’t especially busy but can happen I suppose. Still you would think they might have planned better. If you are hungry it will do the job but I wouldn’t make it a destination.

We enjoyed it the first time so decided to celebrate 38 years of marriage by enjoying another great meal. Bruschetta was amazing followed by melt in the mouth gnocchi and salmon fettuccine. Fantastic meals full of amazing flavour. The staff were attentive and only there when you required them. You were not pushed to order which is very refreshing. Price very reasonable for the quality of the food. Will certainly return and also recommend it as a place to eat when in the area.
