Things to do in Castlemaine
Reasonably quick service, friendly staff and good to see they were constantly cleaning floors/tables etc. It was a really hot day outside but inside was welcomed relief. Our subs were made well and what we expected, but as usual... the coffee was awful! Don't know why we bothered ordering it! But the meal 'filled the hole' in our tummies, and gave us a break from being on the road in the sun. Average... nothing more, nothing less.

Enjoying a weekend in Castlemaine not so much the meal at the Cumberland staff not a feature not rude just not really present ..no engagement my friends carbonara inedible staff member didn't ask if there was an issue. We are not from Castlemaine so our complaint would be of doubtful impact . Simply don't bother #justsaying

Dining situated in the heart of Castlemaine within the historic Theatre Royal. We offer a European food and wine offering that focuses on local producers.
We had the set Sunday lunch menu of 4 courses for $65. The waitress asked if we wanted to be surprised or should she describe the different courses. I asked for a description, which she did with charm and knowledge. The food was delicious and each course was perfectly balanced flavour wise. The quantities were perfect as well, as they were generous without filling one up too much. Although we got the latest available table we werenât rushed out and were told to take our time finishing the meal. Overall a delightful experience and, given the quality of the food, real value for money.

A great place for a meal. I had an excellent rump Steak here. The beer is good and local wine is superb. The hotel is a short walk from the caravan park and next to the botanical gardens.

Run, Rabbit, Run is a cozy environment, well-known for its excellent coffee and casual experience. The offerings are a yummy blend of comfort food and provincial fare, such as the local cider-braised, wild rabbit pie or, another popular favourite, their B
A cozy meeting place with excellent coffee, cakes, and light meals. We enjoyed breakfast here and were pleasantly surprised with the menu and tastes. Located right next to shops and tourist attractions, but somehow 'hidden' from normal traffic. A real gem this one.

We have recently had the delightful experience of dining at the Empyre. We wanted somewhere special to take a few guests after our wedding in Castlemaine. Whilst there are some nice venues to eat in this town, they are mostly cafe or pub style and often do not take bookings. Plus they lack intimacy and style, which the Empyre has in heaps! We were really happy with our choice of venue. The food was great - in some ways more like eating in the home of a very good cook rather than a restaurant, which made the occasion feel even more intimate. Our hosts, Steven and Justin were friendly and charming. Their wine list was excellent and the whole experience delightful. We will happily return and urge anyone looking for somewhere special to dine in Castlemaine to visit the Empyre.

Because it was an amazing autumn day with sunshine we headed up the stairs to the outdoor area. The food was tasty, well presented with good choices available- the wine and beer was also great. The service was good even though the staff had to negotiate the stairs for orders etc. Indoor area looked great as well - great alternative to pub food in the area.

The Railway Hotel is located in the historic township of Castlemaine within the goldfields area in central Victoria. The Hotel dates back to the mid 1800's and is one of a few surviving hotels from the bustling gold boom era. The Hotel is located adjacent
The Railway Hotel is conveniently located, as you would expect, near the station and an easy walk from the center of Castlemaine. The historic exterior hinted at a cosy welcome which was delivered in spades with a cosy rustic and very comfortable interior and a lovely friendly waitress. We dined on a Monday evening and the place was very well patronised with a friendly vibe that made me wish this was my local. The menu was a pleasant surprise with some innovative options. My vegetarian choice promised some intriguing culinary tricks and was a visual treat as well as tasty. We were delighted with our visit and would make it a point to return whenever in Castlemaine.
