We had dinner at the Woodhill bistro within the Great Southern Hotel, a typical country hotel in Berry. The menu choice was unexpectedly wide and the food was good value pub food although not particularly memorable. There was plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor although the indoor was noisy due to the pubs TVs.

I was pleasantly surprised by this cafe. I happily indulged in a gluten and dairy free crepe! The bacon, asparagus and mushroom crepe was delicious and had an amazing fluffy texture.Prices were a little high. Although I didnât order these I was pleased to see coeliacs could have sandwiches, salads, pancakes, cakes and biscuits.A nice outdoor place to sit thatâs protected from the weather.

It looked promising and although the menu was pretty compact there seemed to be enough there. My dish was so over-salted (the vongole with I think Spaghetti) that i took a mouthful of and asked if chef could taste it just to make sure it was not me. I was happy to stick with the same dish and the restaurant had no issue with replacing the meal...unfortunately the result was exactly the same ...so no dish for me. My wife asked if she could have the mash instead of the pommes frites...this appeared to be quite an issue initially BUT the restaurant did come good on that..by the way that was also very salty. Only 1 vegetable dish (lettuce) as sides was a touch strange and left the mains a bit wanting. Also beware the green French beer..not because it is green ...although that is a touch unusual..but because it tastes like a shandy...very lemonady. If you do not like sweet beer ...stick with the Furphys. I think a quick description of the beer either on the menu or from the waitstaff would have been very helpful. I did say I had never had it and it would be good to try something different. I did not drink the beer after a couple of mouthfuls ...but that was my call not the restaurants. Anyway all in all a touch disappointing. Look it might have been an off night and I will give it another go. If things are better I will of course review ithe Queen St Eatery in that light.Hi DiverDanSydney,We appreciate your genuine feedback and will discuss all your comments with staff at briefing this week. Our head waiter was sick last Friday, and we were unable to find a replacement for the evening, which left us a little short on floor staff. We do apologise if that impacted upon service, and do hope you will join us again soon, to give us another go as promised. I'm confident your experience will be improved. If you would like to contact us via email with any other comments, please feel free to do so ([email protected])

Briefly I had this place to myself. I ordered a pot of tea, scone and jam and cream. Bought a few gifts too. Quickly the other tables filled up with other tea drinkers. A lovely ambience.
