Things to do in Shangri-La County
I tried many traditional Tibetan dishes in various restaurants while in and around shangri-la but I can say with certainty that this restaurant had the best all around. The food is traditional, fresh and handmade. The owners speak little English however the menu is bilingual with photos (of the actual dishes they made) and they are good and friendly people. Highly recommend food is the Yak Meat Pizza, fried mixed vegetables, baked mushrooms and fried potato with yak meat although we ordered every dish on the menu and all were good. They will adjust spice to your taste if requested. Also make sure you try to complimentary tea and order a pot of butter tea too.
SongZan LinKa is so comfortable, feels like at home. Their service is fully surrounding the needs of their guests, paying attention to every small details. I stayed here two nights with my college friends, we had unforgettable happy time here.

Specialty yak cheese shop offering locally produced cheese to help impoverished Tibetan herders improve their livelihoods. Includes a full menu and wine for pairing.
Me & my partner had a cheese plate and couple of glasses of local wine. The cheese was lovely and, surprisingly, the wine was drinkable too - the combination was very enjoyable. We visited this place at the end of November when it was already very cold and there are not so many tourist in Shangrila. Thus, we were the only people in the restaurant. The waiter was nice, but didn't speak any English. The restaurant had no heating, so we were eating & drinking in our full winter outfit with gloves on. However, it was still enjoyable experience and I am sure in summer it is a great place to have lunch or dinner. And the food & drink was good value too.

The Puppet Western Restaurant has been in operations since 1997. We serve pizzas, pasta, soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers. Our yak burgers and pizzas are our top-selling items. We also offer clean and simple accommodations in terms of dormitory beds
I had a yak burger since others had raved about it. I wasn't disappointed, the meat was tender and the sauce in the bun divine. It came with chips which tasted homemade. The menu is extensive though - there's something for everyone and they have a pretty good selection of local beers.Staff were friendly - especially the manager who talks about the area with passion and is very informative. Other staff members didn't seem to have much English but the menu is well written in both Chinese and English so it's easy to point if you need to.It's not the best meal I've ever eaten but the value is good - average for western standard food in Shangri la. I'd highly recommend this place.Dear Muppet333,Thank you for your review. We are glad our yak burger didn't disappoint you. Our staff is currently undergoing English training and we hope that in the near future they'll be confident enough to speak up and interact with foreign customer. All the very best to you.Dorothy L

You are most certainly in for a special treat when you visit this charming restaurant. Entering past the traditional Tibetan entrance cloth into an intricately carved wooden paneled room adorned with artwork and artifacts sets the tone for your amazing meal. We feasted on delicious Yak meat pizza, noodle soup, barley bread and butter tea. But even more special was our interaction with the owners who became our new friends. What an amazing experience, one we will never forget. Highlight of our trip.

Ate here and had some fantastic food, the yak meat Tibetan hotpot was amazingly good and so was the local Shangri-La brewed beer. The ingredients were all very fresh, loads of vegetables and a great soup. We only had a small hotpot between four of us and it was enough with some sundries, great place for a cool evening, mainly full of locals too.

We visited this restaurant several times during our stay in Shangri-la. Great Tibetan food (I loved momo dumplings!) but also very decent Western food (steak, burger) and breakfast. The owners are very kind and helpful - they speak perfect English so we were able not only order our food in a right way but also got some tips on what to do in Shangri-la and neighborhood. Recommended!

Three brother 's cafe is focusing on local tibetan food/indian /asian food, welcome all of guests come to enjoying the best food.
My wife and I had two days in Shangri-La (Zhongdian) in July 2018 as part of a 24 day private tour of China with Wendy Wu Tours. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this city visiting the magnificent Songzanlin Monastery, the Dukezong Old Town and a visit to a Tibetan Village where we visited a house and presented the owner with a small gift from Australia as a nice piece of cultural exchange. On the advice of our tour guide we had dinner on our second night in Shangri-La at The Three Brothers Café in the Old Town beside the town square. We enjoyed delightful Tibetan and Yunnan cuisine in a most relaxed atmosphere. We chose Stones Yak Meat and Chicken and Cashew Nut as our shared meal and it was beautifully cooked and very tasty. I chose to have a bottle of their Yunnan Red Wine which was quite acceptable and my wife tried a Tibetan Pale Ale beer to compliment the meal. My wife found the taste of her pale ale quite different to what she has been accustomed to. We really appreciated that the owners and the staff had a reasonable command of the English language â this made choosing our meal and drinks from the menu so much easier. It was also great to meet a few fellow Australians on this evening. Throughout our 24 day private trip there was hardly a westerner in sight. Being able to have a rare conversation with fellow Australians was an added bonus. A highlight was the Tibetan circle dancing performed by the villagers in the main town square which happens every evening and tourists are invited to join in if they wish. It was very easy to view from the verandah of the Cafe. The Cafe is located on the first floor of an attractive building and you have to navigate quite a steep set of stairs. However the climb is well worth the effort. From this verandah it was wonderful watching the dance circle grow by the minute and admire the dancersâ skilful techniques. This was indeed a memorable, relaxed dining experience for both of us in this charming place called Shangri-La. The Three Brothers Café is highly recommended as a great place to unwind and enjoy a great meal. .

We spent 17 days travelling through Yunnan Province and this was by far the most delightful meal we had during our travels. Uttara is a wonderful host - very thoughtful, kind and lovely to chat with. I am coeliac and eating in China was rather challenging. I was so relieved to finally get stuck into some delicious gluten free curries. And the chai....so fantastic! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. I would go back for a meal there in a flash! Thanks so much Uttara for such a lovely experience.
