Didn't expect too much coming in but to our surprise, everything was very good! We came as a family of 4, ordered small sashimi set, Ishigaki beef sushi, mixed roll, bitter melon fried egg, cheese dumplings, chicken ramen, and a grilled welk. Starters were a couple of prawns with thousand island dressing, they do charge an extra 300 per head for those. Nothing disappointed us! Will come back to this restaurant again. It's quiet, no advanced booking required. Highly recommend this place :)

In2000,a wife,Airi, from Tokyo and husband,Gyoho, from China opened a restaurant,Pengin Shokudo,in Ishigaki Island,Okinawa. With our motto"Shoku wa nuchi gusui,"meaning that food is the medicine for life,we are offering Ishigaki local vegetables, original fr
But I'm a boy. And I care about things like depth of flavour and relaxed atmosphere. The dishes here are beautiful. Lots of diligence in plating.Everything was very light on flavour. The staff are quite bossy - telling you where to stand while waiting, telling you how to sit (as the place is quite cramped), and then telling you how to eat the damned food. This is not some exotic cuisine like banh xeo or something where you need guidance the first time.Really not delicious or relaxing. But chicks dig it. Very cute, blah, blah, blah.Once is enough for me.

This restaurant was recommended by our dive company. Small Japanese style restaurant. We sat at the sushi bar which was great. The food were reasonably priced and the sushi was very fresh. Also had some okinawan food such as umiputou. Highly recommend!

We serve Charcoal-grilled meat of Japanese beef from Sakishima islands. We have 9 relaxable private rooms which fit for 4 - 9 people (family and group). You can also bring your pet there.
A bit smokey in the restaurant but understandable since there are grills on every table. We had a private room for 5 adults and 4 small children. The menus were offered in English, Chinese and Japanese. They thoughtfully provided mini chairs for the children (the seating is on the floor with a cut away section for your legs) as well as a basket full of toys and books. The room had sliding doors with screens so we were able to air it out a bit. Beef sushi was really good, as well as their beef and chicken. Large free parking lot. Highly recommend!

This little restaurant is tucked into a lush green garden just steps from the beach. Its lunch plate options have won awards in the past. The food was excellent, but I found the manner of selecting option combinations to be confusing and even more confusion ensued when the meals were being delivered. The good news is that no matter which options you choose, or are ultimately delivered to you, you will have a good meal!

Small sushi place near the city office of Ishigaki. I ordered a selection of the finest sushi ("matsu"), so it was 2400Â¥ for around 15 pieces. There was shrimp, salmon, eel, omelette, salmon eggs, urchin, squid, mackerel, and also fatty tuna (excellent!) and raw ishigaki beef.Very simple atmosphere and quick service. I recommend.

This restaurant offers regional Japanese food in a tradional setting. They had menus in multiple languages and our waitresses spoke good English. The food is interesting and good (would recommend one of the sets plus a few additions) but not spectacular. They have a Japanese song performance over dinner which started mellow but then got the whole place up and dancing at the end. Overall this is a great dining experience and given the excellent atmosphere something I'd recommend for a trip on Ishigaki.

No English menu, although we managed to figure out enough options by using a Japanese phrasebook. The usual items were all there --- pig ear salad, sea grapes, etc. What we ordered was promptly delivered, well prepared, and delicious. The waiters were very helpful and friendly, despite being extremely busy. If I had only one place to eat in Ishigaki, this would be my choice.

The location of Tofuno Higa is a bit far from the central area. So I recommend you to get there either by car, scooter or bike. Or else, you need to have a preparation for a long walk. Went there with friends around 6ish in the morning for Breakie. I ordered the small tofu set and it's nice and fresh. Moreover, you better visit the restaurant before they sold out all tofu ;)

Then you would like add other dishes, I recommend you the sushi of Ishigaki beef, and fried rice with calamari ink.But again, you should taste the sashimimori first, because that's the highlight here, and that should be tasted when you are hungry. You can eat the slice of Chinese radish and seaweeds which could be a good substitute for a salad!
