This is a wagyu sukiyaki or shabu shabu restaurant that is renowned for its excellent quality and service situated in the heart of Hakata. It serves 4 grades of wagyu beef that is mainly beef shoulder with lots of petite appetisers. The waitress will cook all your sukiyaki beef in front of you and guide you through the course to proper tasting of this dish. The service is exceptional and you are utterly felt most welcome in this traditional restaurant as a foreigner.

For our last night in Fukouka, we couldn't get any restaurant we want. Based on hotel's recommendation and the TripAdvisor review, we booked Kawatarou, the original store. Interestingly, as a highly rated restaurant, its staff barely spoke English. As I didn't want the set menu, which was the big mistake, we went through a lengthy ordering process with our waiter. An hour and half later, while we still waited for two last dishes, I decided to add one sushi dish same as our next table had. Our waiter took the order but came back later with lots of explanation. I couldn't quite understand but figured the fish ran out and he wanted us to change. The manager showed up a few minutes later to ask us whether we want sushi and tried to persuade us to get a standard combo. When I pointing to the sushi on the next table, he eventually told us he has only similar fish not the same one. I told him in that case we only want to finish what we have ordered and ask him to follow up. Ten minutes later, he came back, with the bill (not the order but the bill which I didn't even ask for) and told us that all of our orders were served. We went through another round of sign language to indicate from the menu, which two dishes were missing. Finally I gave up and told him that we don't want the dishes anymore. His next words were " please pay the bill". No hot towel, no hot tea, just kicked us gaijins straight out. What an eye opening experience!

Went again yesterday for lunch. We were early to wait in line at 10:40am and there were already over 15 people waiting in front of us. It's the Golden Week so not a surprise. They opened right on time and we managed to get into the first round of service.Sushi was again the best quality you can get. Service was good. All the dishes were just fresh and delicious. Location is the best if you're in that area for shopping. But be prepared to wait for at least 30mins during the weekend or public holiday.

After a 50 minutes line up we were fully satisfied that the wait well deserved. The noodle has prominent wheat favour and cooked al dente, the sliced pork has fresh strong favour unlike sometime your ramen pork could be cold, fatty or tasteless. The soup is favourful but not heavy. The bite size gyoza were freshly cooked and yummy. The table and seating are very spacious among its peer ramen shop. I certainly shall make this one stop on my next trip back to Fukuoka.

This is a 24 hour Ichiran ramen building that serves really good broth, and great ramen. We had it for breakfast and it was a good experience. Would visit here again if given the opportunity.

Itâs a wonderful restaurant with various choices and its open hour provides us chance to avoid long line in rush hour. We ordered ramen, assorted noodle, dumpling and fried rice. Everything is great with Fukuoka style but also well-accepted for foreigners stomach. Itâs pity that BBQ starts from 5pm.

Ippudo, our ramen restaurant, was first established in 1985 in Hakata, Fukuoka. Currently in 2017, we have over 100 stores throughout Japan. In 1990, our founder, Shigemi Kawahara, entered the Hall of Fame for winning the the ramen competition of the show
Both shiromaru (white) and akamaru (red) ramen were very tasty. The noodle was a bit softer and thinner than other Japanese ramen noodle. You may choose the firmness of the noodle. The soup had typical Hakata deep taste but not greasy. Some liked white original soup and others favored red soup. Staff was attentive and polite. Late in the evening there was no queue. Personally, I feel this was better than Ichiran in terms of quality of ramen and service of staff.

Bit more expensive than most ramen restaurants and probably not worth going out of the way for...but it's still great ramen and its convenient location in Hakata station was perfect as we had an hour to kill between trains...the staff were friendly and all spoke pretty good English...

Based on positive reviews we tried this local favourite and was not disappointed. We had the motsunabe shabu shabu style which had a delicious soup broth and a side dipping sauce that was an excellent accompaniment to the various meat parts in the stew. There was also a lot of vegetables and tofu that helped fill you up for lunch or dinner. Highly recommend this place.

Hands down, hand on heart the bestest best unagi I have ever had. So yummy! Perfectly seasoned and grilled to a slight crisp. Do yourself a favour and order at least 4 pieces. There is no difference between the different options for the unagi. Either go for the donburi (bowl) with the eel served on rice or the kabayaki which serves the eel separately. As many have stated, they accept only cash. Ambience is peaceful and comfortable. Western seating in a traditional setting. This will be my must go eat in Fukuoka!
