Calling itself "the southern part of Heaven," the town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina is home to the grassy malls and brick walkways of the University of North Carolina's historic campus. Rasa used to be called Merlion and was very good and one of a kind. When they changed over to new ownership 2 years ago some of the same staff stayed on and it was still very good with the same menu. Not sure why they renamed it from a unique name to one that is already used by another Restaurant in Chapel Hill. On my last visit (today), I felt they had slid downhill a bit and it is frustrating that they changed items on the menu - possibly trying to conform more to American taste. They used to have a dish called Hor Fun which they no longer carry for dinner even though it is on the website (frustrating when you can't view the current menu on the website). On this visit the staff was also much less friendly and the quality of the food just wasn't as good. I am going to give them 4 stars, but if I have another visit like the one tonight I will probably downgrade them to 3. Still unique food for this area and worth a visit. Please upgrade your online menu!

How refreshing to find a restaurant that delivers authentic Chinese food. The place might be past its prime/critical-peak, but they have an extensive menu loaded with Sichuan-regional options (fuqi feipian, twice-cooked pork, etc.), a friendly staff, and lots of familiar homestyle dishes for local homesick Chinese (like us) and non-Chinese looking to try a range of options that actual Chinese people eat (keep that in mind when reading these reviews... trust the Asians)! We mixed it up and got the "fuqi feipian" (thin sliced beef in chili oil with tripe, served cold as an appetizer), a bowl of the beef noodle soup (fantastic. loads of tender, tasty beef), and yu-xiang (hot chili/garlic) eggplant -- our personal faves when we just want something satisfying that reminds us of home. They even had pig ears on the menu but ran out that day.If we lived in Chapel Hill, we'd be regulars.

My interaction with the Manager Zeke was less than desirable and will lead to us NEVER going back again. Zee decided it was in his best interest to argue with me about a mistake the kitchen made (mistakes happen but its how you deal with them). Maybe I should have checked the Orange County Health Inspection website before I went there anyways....

...average Chinese/Thai place. Dumplings okay. Szechuan style chicken was okay. Pad Thai chicken actually pretty good. Wonton soup standard. Service friendly and on top of everything. Prices fair. Stop in for a lunch or dinner. The place is good but needs to do something a little better to stand out.

We went for lunch after finding out that Lime and Basil existed. The restaurant is located in downtown and there is easy parking nearby. The service was excellent and we were well taken care of. We had the Vegetarian Delight with shrimp and Egg Noodles. They were quite good but needed a bit more seasoning. The table had different sauces to add and the meal was quite bland without the additional sauce. Everything was very fresh and had a lovely presentation. My only wish was that the seasoning had been a bit more flavorful.Excellent service and great presentation. We will go back and see how things are a second time.

We were visiting my son in NC and he wanted to take us here for dinner. I ordered the salmon with curry sauce and it was delicious! We also tried the empanadas which were also very good. Our server was very attentive. I really can not think of one negative thing to say except I wish we had one of these restaurants in New Jersey!

Want fried chicken or a tamale or sobu noodles? Got it. The menu is varied but with a large business crowd, everyone found something to their liking. The fried chicken is more like schnitzel and was a huge hit. I had the salmon and it felt indulgent - crispy on the outside and served on a bed of creamy mashed. Oddly, my favorite part was the side dish of green beans in a garlicky soy sauce. Yum!

This restaurant, tucked in the corner of the Glen Lennox shopping center and almost hidden by another, is peaceful. The menu is very interesting with riffs on several Asian cuisines. But because I am sensitive to fiery foods I found that even though I tried to order carefully I couldnât escape. I got the spring rolls which had hot red pepper; wrappers were a bit thick and while the initial flavor was good the fire built with each bite. I also got dumplings, again spicy even without the dipping sauce. Atmosphere is pleasant. Service was abstracted.

Itâs is in the Top 100 restaurants this year and I am still wondering why .The salt and pepper is very oily and not much taste - fried shrimp with flash fried cilantro I have had better salt and pepper shrimp in other places The Tom yum soup was OK - and I repeat I had better Tom yum soup in other restaurantsThe decor and the ambience is nice. Also very limited choice of entrees in the menu !

Back to Chapel Hill for graduation week-end, and we again partook of this delightful Asian fusion venue. We enjoyed the Tempura Asparagus and Crispy Spring Roll appetizers. I then had the special Blue Fin Tuna â3 Waysâ plate. While technically a Small plate, this was satisfying and filling. Mrs Gyr gave high marks to the Indochine Chicken Curry, which was flavorful and not too spicy. Pleasant ambiance, delightfully friendly service, and great desserts: Coconut cake, and âElements Pieâ (aka Belgian chocolate mouse). Elements is highly recommended!
