I love this place. Might be the best Chinese restaurant on Long Island. The soup dumplings are outstanding. The spicy pork, scallion pancakes are delicious. The Spicy Flounder Hunan style is fantastic. Service is great and the prices are reasonable. Did I mention that I love this place?

I can not say enough about this restaurant. The food is perfectly cooked and super delicious. I love all of the curries, the whole fish, pork chops, calamari, summer rolls, all of the fried rice and the pumpkin custard. This place will never let you down. Saifon is super sweet. All of the staff is great. They even have a painting that an elephant made! You must go here. Very fair prices for such awesome food. I real gem.

One of my favorite take out places on the island. When I worked nearby a few years ago I was a regular customer there. Recently I new I would be nearby so I planned going there for lunch take out.The house special soups come with about 15 options, and then some. You get a choice of noodle, choice of a dumpling, shrimp, chicken or won ton, then seafood, beef, pork or chicken. Its easier than it sounds. The 15 choices is actually much bigger, but keep it simple, look at the menu.Great place!

Tao's Delicacies

We read previous reviews and found them closed for renovations. (which usually means closed permanently) however, we were happy to find them open in February. We loved what we ordered, but we're used to American Chinese food, and were not brave enough to take a chance on something exotic. We loved the simple things we ordered, but we probably missed something great. Almost all the customers were Asian, and looked like they were enjoying what they ordered. This place should be reviewed by someone more knowledgeable.

The service was terrible. We couldn't really communicate with half of the staff, we were talking to them and they walked away, we couldn't understand what they were saying, while we were eating one of the waiters was banging some plates behind our backs. Food was OK.

Sometimes you just have to eat something different, and Yao's DIner on Middle Country Road in Centereach, NY offers authentic Chinese food that is tasty and unique. Hand ripped cabbage and Eggplant with garlic sauce are just two dishes that are delicious and different. Double cooked fish with a spicy tang and Chicken chow fun made with homemade noodles are always a welcome change from the ubiquitous Long Island pizza or Americanized Chinese take out. That being said, Yao's has some other unique aspects that are not so palatable as their food. In summer, it is incredibly hot since the restaurant has no air conditioning nor does it even have a fan. So not only do you sweat from the hot and spicy food but from the external heat as well. Yao's serves no beverages other than warm water or soda. The tea they put on the table is always luke warm. I do not know if they drink it that way in China, but it ends up simply being a tasteless liquid to wash down hot peppers. Although , they do smile, the wait staff speak no English . I do not say that they have to speak English like an Oxford don, but it is unsettling to me when I am trying to place an order and the waiter takes his time trying to figure out the word chicken from the word, beef. The restaurant is small and the food comes quickly but you have to ask for a bowl of rice for some reason. The food is also expensive.A plate of double cooked fish was $16. The cabbage nearly $10. So plan on spending some money. In addition, they only take cash! A decided inconvenience given the fact that the bill is usually pretty high. They have been in business a few years now and should realize that people like to use their credit cards, particularly when dining out. The wait staff is also , well frankly, weird. At my last visit, I , admittedly, did not leave a generous tip. When I eat out and give a good tip , I want to feel like I got exemplary service and attention. So it was with some surprise that as I got in my car, I saw the waiter waving from the restaurant door and walking to my vehicle in order to tell me in his barely comprehensible English that my tip was not high enough!!!! Because I was embarrassed, I dug in my purse and gave him a few dollars more, but I felt this was an unabashed violation of proper business etiquette. It wasn't as if I didn't leave a tip, the waiter just felt it was not enough and was chasing me down to make it up. The last time I looked, tipping was not the law in the United States. I felt terribly misused and will not return to this restaurant again of course. It is a shame because the food is not bad. Given that most of the workers are likely foreign students attending Stony Brook University, a course in manners should be made mandatory. Maybe those interested in Yao's cuisine can just do take out!

Ssambap Korean BBQ

Reviewed By danfriedmanmd

High ceilings, fantastic fish tank, wonderful interior which ‘transports’ you to a local village in korea is what you’ll find at Ssambap. The food is delicious! The bulgogi for the on-the-table barbecue was so tender and the marinade was unbelievable. And it came with lettuce wraps, rice, bean paste, peanut paste, scallions, radish. The vegetable mandoo soup was was tasty, and the assortment of banchan was incredible—-kimchee, cucumbers, broccoli, tofu, and bean sprouts. My bibimbap was perfect— bulgogi, rice, chili sauce, mixed vegetables, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, fried egg, and avocado (7!) was delicious except there was very little meat (as opposed to the huge amounts I received with the barbecue. Definitely a top five restaurant in the Smithaven Mall area!!

So this is a great place for a quick bite on a budget. We got so many delicious dumplings and had such a great time trying the different flavors. They have bubble tea and such but do not serve alcohol. I highly suggest trying the dumplings though. All of them. I think we all tried them all, it’s a once you start you can’t stop kind of thing. The buffalo chicken ones were awesome. I will make the 45 min drive to get them again.

We went here for lunch. It was a Monday and almost empty. We went right around noon. You fill out a paper for the sushi you want. We had gyoza and volcano shrimp from the kitchen, both very good. We mostly got sushi and rolls after. All were fresh and tasty. Service was a little slow and order was a little short of what we had ordered. We just ordered more and it was fine. I would go back. Lunch was $20 per person and I believe dinner is a little more.
