The rustic and oldish feel of the Tan Swie Hian Museum is interesting to see for yourself, and is a testament to one of the most famous and hardworking artists working right here in Singapore.

The National Gallery at the Old Supreme Court displayed a huge myriad of Asian art pieces and the amazing colonial interior and exterior. I absolutely loved the choir in the old court room and the extensive collection of Javanese and Southeast Asian pieces throughout the museum. Would visit again, definitely.

Since then, we have built one of the world's most important collections of contemporary art by artists from Singapore, Southeast Asia and Asia. Our museum buildings are undergoing a major transformation. This former fire station, itself a pretty looking building, now houses the museum of the history of fire fighting in Singapore. There are some fantastic exhibits including actual fire engines and archival footage of past firemen. The exhibits on the 2nd floor cover more modern fire fighting techniques with outstanding videos and animatronics on not just fire fighting, but also on rescue missions. An amazing and free museum I'd be happy to pay to enter.

Since 1996, Gajah Gallery has been a pioneering body in the Southeast Asian arts scene, representing a portfolio of the region’s leading artists as well as engaging the brightest emerging talents in contemporary art today. From humble beginnings in Singapore at Monk’s Hill, the Gallery has since expanded to a huge, beautifully-designed industrial warehouse space in Tanjong Pagar, and opened a second exhibition house in the thriving arts city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Both exhibition spaces are fuelled with a unique atmosphere, that invites an interplay of contemporary aesthetics and critical discourse. Gajah Gallery remains dedicated to promoting artists from the region and highlighting their international relevance. Visited this museum this afternoon. Wonderful collection which documents the arrival of the first Indians under the HEC deployed to Singapore about the time of Raffles. The museum looks at the history of migrations and the settlers. Those Indians who have raised to prominence in Singapore - S R Nathan, Rajarstnam, etc spring to mind. It looks at culture and practice, including many items of gold jewellery. Handicrafts and textiles. Religion and prominent Indians in India and their influence on Singapore. The ground floor had seven paintings on display by Kumuda Krovvidi, a contemporary artist from Mumbai now living in Singapore, and the other is Shivali Mathur - beautiful contemporary Indian folk art painters. Don’t forget to check out the three sculpture display outside the museum, depicting Masala and showing a chilli, cloves and nutmeg with mace. Allow about 1 to 2 hours to visit. $8 standard admission for adults. In the heart of Little India. Lift to all levels. Good air conditioning and excellent WiFi.
