Colorado is home to no less than twenty-six ski resorts such as those in Vail and Breckenridge; other winter activities include snowboarding, sledding, sleigh rides, snow hiking and snowmobiling. The state is blessed with national parks, grasslands and forests where in warmer weather you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing. Wildlife abounds, from bears to moose and raccoons to wolverines. More interested in local history? Head for either the Ute Indian Museum or the Koshare Indian Museum, and don't miss the forts such as Fort Garland and Bent's Old Fort. Known for its wide range of Native American art, this museum also contains the only major Asian art collection in the Rocky Mountains.
The current special exhibit:The Western: An Epic in Art and Film is, yes, epic - for its insight, scope and film references. On view through September 10, 2017, it is well worth the $18 adult admission to see and understand how the mythology of the West was born, changed with the times, and endures today. DAM's permanent collection of American Indian and Western American art are highlights, along with the stunning Daniel Libeskind and Geo Ponti architecture.

It’s like a little park tucked right off the main road and along a big creek. The sculptures are super-creative and whimsical. They are clever and fun to look at—from springy dachshunds to fanciful birds to roaring dinosaurs!

Housed in an award winning art-deco facility, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College has been the cultural center of the Pikes Peak region for nearly a century. With roots reaching back to the Broadmoor Art Academy, the Fine Arts Center has striven to promote the importance of fine art from its inception in 1936. The FAC's museum boasts a large permanent collection of regional, national, and international artists and hosts an array of traveling exhibitions. In addition to the museum, the Fine Arts Center also houses a Broadway-caliber theater with its own theater company as well as an established art school.
Went to a play there. They also have a museum with a variety of different items which change periodically. There are native american items and items from early settlers and Spanish american parts of the regions heritage. If you go to a theater production you can go to the museum free. Next door is the Numismatic association so you can easily spend a few hours between the museums.

A Hidden Gem of Cowboy Art! Arthur Roy Mitchell painted iconic western scenes featuring cowboys, horses, cattle and vast beautiful landscapes that captured the hearts and minds of pulp western readers from the 1930's to today. The largest collection of his work is proudly displayed at the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art, in downtown Trinidad, Colorado. Plan a visit to view this beautiful collection and we hope you'll become a member and support our efforts to keep his art alive and on display for generations to come.
If you are fortunate enough to be in Trinidad when this museum is open, it is A MUST SEE!!! A.R. Mitchell gave his entire collection of his remaining art works to this museum in Trinidad!! While walking through the exhibits, I realized that I had seen some of his magazine covers but did not know that he had created them! His paintings of panoramic scenes in Colorado are spectacular!!! If a docent is available to share background information on Mitchell and his works, it will certainly enhance the visit!!!
